Its getting close to relocation time!

I am getting close to time to move to California. I am a Texas boy, I was born here, and raised here... I have always lived within an hour of Dallas, and I am moving to California in less than 4 weeks!!! I am excited yet scared!

My last 'big' move that I did was moving from McKinney, Texas to Dallas, which is about 20 minutes away. I cried moving, and it took me about 4-5 months to get used to...LOL... maybe I am just a big ol baby, but this move scares the living shit out of me!

I have been out there a couple of times, my boyfriend lived there for about 20 years, but I cannot get over the anxious and nervous feelings. Any advice for moving a long distance for the first time? Maybe Squirt can chime in here...LOL.. he moved like half way across the world..

I am moving to a town called Nipomo, which is about 2 hours or so north of LA, and about 3 hours south of San Francisco... Population 7,500... It is small, yet I think the perfect starting point for me there I think..

Wow, Dean, I had no idea you were moving out here!

I've lived in 9 different cities in 4 different states in the last 11 years, and I just view it as an adventure each time. I've been fortunate to almost always have friends or business associates who were relocating with me, which helps a whole lot, but I enjoy the change of scenery, the chance to meet new people and do different things.

I spent 11 years in a very liberal town of about 8,000 in the midwest and enjoyed the small town vibe, but eventually got to where I wanted a little more than what the small town environment had to offer. (I was also traveling a lot for work, which probably contributed to my being happy in a tiny town for that long.)

I'd say just look at it as an adventure, a chance to explore and try something different, and perhaps to experience your day-to-day life in a different way... I thoroughly enjoyed my "small town" time, and honestly, the place I'm in now has a lot of similar attributes to a small town (farm land is a mile away, but housing developments and shopping are only a couple miles away) and I truly enjoy the environment.

[QUOTE=gaybucks_chip;204649]Wow, Dean, I had no idea you were moving out here! [QUOTE]

I have been talking about it for YEARS! My boyfriend and I were discussing it yesterday, and our lease is up, and it was time to give notice... we kept saying oh lets get a place for 6 months, then move. I was like well, why not just go ahead and move now. So, it was yesterday when we decided to move..LOL.. kinda last minute, but I think sometimes, those can be the best adventures in life, the ones that aren't so planned.

Change can be difficult, but exciting .... I think it's all in how you decide to deal with whatever it is ... this sounds like something you have really wanted to do, and I bet you'll be saying "damn, I should of done this years ago"!

great! we like hanging in Pismo Beach a lot - exactly half way between LA and SF - also close to Edwards (cute guys) but a little too close to Diablo Canyon nuclear reactor although, LA has Diablo to the north and San Onofre to the south - I guess we just can't get enough power here

you'll love the community and easy going life style - also tends to be way cheaper than it is down here in LA

why don't you stop on by sometime and "kick your shoes off and rest a spell" - next time your in the BH area....

I've lived in califormia for almost 35 years and have driven up and down the state. I've never heard of Nipomo? Must be really small.

Good luck on the move, you should be fine! You are going to love California, I was born and raised in Southern California and I'm not going anywhere. There is so much diversity here not to mention the beach, mountains, deserts, and some of the best cities in the U.S.!

I've personally never heard of Nipomo but I take it it's in central Cali, you'll definitely need to end up heading down south.

Nipomo is just the pit stop before going farther south.

Congrats Dean! I can't wait to leave texas too. But I'm with Luke... we are leaving the US (for business reasons) as soon as we can afford it... but California is as close to leaving the US as possible whilst staying here.

Spain seems to have pretty lenient immigration policies. But I'm not sure how excited they will be to see 'Pornographer' on my immigration papers under 'Occupation'.
