Iran votes to execute porn performers

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill that could lead to the death penalty for persons convicted of working in the production of pornographic movies.

With a 148-5 vote in favor and four abstentions, lawmakers present at the Wednesday session of the 290-seat parliament approved that "producers of pornographic works and main elements in their production are considered corrupter of the world and could be sentenced to punishment as corrupter of the world."

The term, "corrupter of the world" is taken from the Quran, the Muslims' holy book, and ranks among the highest on the scale of an individual's criminal offenses. Under Iran's Islamic Penal Code, it carries a death penalty.

The "main elements" referred to in the draft include producers, directors, cameramen and actors involved in making a pornographic video.

The bill also envisages convictions ranging from one year imprisonment to a death sentence for the main distributors of the movies and also producers of Web sites in which the pornographic works appear.

Besides videos, the bill covers all electronic visual material, such as DVDs and CDs. Other material, such as porn magazines and books, are already banned under Iranian law. FULL STORY

    ------------

Does this change how you feel about Iran? Distributing porn will be a death sentence as well.

Wow, let's plan a convention in Tehran for 2008, give 'em a run for their money... sort of like the fake Dubai gathering cards distributed at Phoenix Forum in 2006.

It just means you wont be able to produce porn in Iran, i see nothing wrong with it myself, if its one of their laws, anyone breaking it will know the penalties for doing so, just like people working in porn in China know the laws they choose to break $0.02

It's their law. Why should I feel different?

I don't agree with the high sentence, but then again, every country has it's own laws as stupid or cruel as they might be.

You can't invade a country for this.

You can disagree. You can argue. You can try and help through various organizations.

Every regime; be it absolutistic, democratic or comunist takes it's toll on regular people. Now in order to evolve and in order to become something else you'll see various laws being installed, just to be later removed and condemned...

It's not like USA didn't have it's own dark history, where a black person was not allowed to drink from the same pipe as white, go to same toilet as white, go to same schools as white people did ....

It's just as horrible as this.

But in the US the lynchings were not officially government sanctioned.
