Why Are Adult Sites Priced The Same?

So tonight ive been doing some research in to pricing and i have to say, the mind boggle with pricing structures on porn sites, it seems the 'norm' is to have either $29.95 or $34.95 price points, irrespective of what is actually inside the members area of the site, feeds, hosted content, upsells, etc.

Why does everyone pretty much choose the same price points as everyone else?

I also looked over a couple of my members areas this evening and actually figured that based on some of the other sites i have seen, i could be charging $60, $70, $80 a month, but i know surfers wouldnt pay that, even though almost all of them have at least double the content inside them as a lot of the PPS programs websites members areas.

So why are membership prices all in the $20-$30 price range for a single month? What is the reason behind this, could we be charging more for memberships if all of the sponsors suddenly decided to 'up' the price of membership?

Your thoughts, do you think price points for most membership sites are realistic or do they leave a lot to be desired?

Personally, i cant understand why a site like Jims UKNakedMen site charges almost the same as i do on the Condom Cash sites, when he has exclusive content that updates every few weeks, surely he should be charging the surfer MORE than i am?

    Regards,

    Lee

Just wanted to point out a couple errors. We update 3 times per week (2 photosets and 1 video) and we actually charge $8 less for a 30 recurring membership than you do.

We set our price point to be in the same ballpark as our competitors. If we price ourselves too high, we may get passed over when surfers are choosing between two sites. Too low and we are cheapening the value of the content.

    That kinda makes my point.

You update 3 times a week, i update once a week, yet you charge less.

Doesnt that strike you as odd?

I don't consider any of your sites our 'main competitors'. I would assume that you are competing for the same type of customer that would join a Top Bucks site.

The sites that our potential members are comparing us to are priced in the same zone... + or - $2. We charge $26.95 (rebills at $24.95) monthly recurring or $34.95 for 30 day non-recurring. For a brief time, our monthly recurring was $29.95 and when we dropped the price $3, we noticed a nice jump in recurring memberships over the non-recurring joins. And we'd rather have recurring members over 1-timers... as long as the retention is good.

Again though, that is the point im trying to make.

If i offered exactly the same price points as you, shouldnt YOU raise your price because your content is exclusive and you have more updates, not lower it?

The same with your competitors, they should be charging MORE than me for access to a site but they are charging less.

Why is around $30 the 'standard' for pricing? Why not $40, $50, $60?

Everyone seems to charge around $30 for a months access, why, who dictated that price?

    Lee

    Okay, why?

Now we're getting somewhere, why are my membership fees over-priced?

What criteria did you use to come to that conclusion?

    Lee
