Use Of The Word 'Boy' In Domain/Site Names - Your Thoughts?

Given that a lot of traffic places now, including the big ones like Google are starting to frown upon the use of the word 'boy' in site names, what do you folks think about it?

I mean i know there is a lot of different meanings to the word when used in the adult industry but, as a site owner, do you feel this is a word that we could do without using because of the connotation that there *might* be something illegal going on?

I know we had a discussion about this a couple of years back and several of you noted that you didnt promote sites that included that word in the domain name and im just wondering if you had changed your policy on this?

Those of you who do use the word in your site names, may i ask why? Arent there plenty of other words that could be used instead to describe the type of content you have?

    Regards,

    Lee

what about the use of qualifiers in the domain? like 18yearoldboys.com or collegeboys.com or boysover18.com?

google, etc, won't take 'em, but i think they show that their intentions are legal.

Why could those domains be something like....

    18yearoldlads.com
    collegelads.com
    twinksover18.com

They would all be accepted by Google.

I dont know, im actually in two minds about this whole topic on one hand, i totally understand that the use of the word 'boy' when it comes to porn can (and is) considered to mean under the age of 18 by a lot of people not associated with the business.

On the other hand, i can see why people register domains with that word in them, for multiple reasons.

I understand the use of words lad and twink instead of boy in a domain name. Not meaning to slightly change the topic but when I attempt writing SEO friendly reviews, I avoid the word boy and use young men instead."

With one site of mine, I am experimenting with http://Quantcast.com - I will allow it to read data for 90 days and see how realistic its visitor count is as compared to mine during that period.

Has only been recording real data a week. (45%) are in the U.S. The site is popular among a skewing older, largely male, mostly Caucasian, HH income up to $60k, more educated audience.

I attempted to edit, adding a comment, but I was too slow for the five minute countdown. Gosh I wish I could write quickly... but when I do, I have been drinking and quite opinionated (smile).

I added Quantcast to this topic because, as most know, most porn income is still generated by the USA. I do not think they would search for "lad".

I am sorry but in the gay community, which is my market, the term boy simply means a young looking male. It has nothing to do with underage kids...

Perhaps PETA will start getting involved against sites that use the term fucking a BEAR...implying that animal abuse is going on! WTF

The politically correct world we live in is actually THAT fucked up!

With you now living out of the USA, many of us still have certain BARS that we shoud not pole jump over.

How is life in Argentina? HOW much of your income still comes from the USA?

In my opinion, don't waste time agitating over something like that.

    Use boy.

Come on. Maurice Chevalier, who at the time must have been in his 60s, opened the Academy Award winning movie Gigi prancing around singing "Thank Heaven for Little Girls"....

    Say no to political correctness.

Google doesn't like "twinks" either, BTW.

They're really unnecessarily tightening the screws, and it makes it difficult to do business with sponsors... because if it's not in the domain name, it'll be in the text or graphics of the landing page. Which Google also pisses on.

I've asked some sponsors if they could create tours without the word "boys" but it never seemed to materialize. That's money left on the table.

we're kinda stuck, because in 2002, nobody gave much of a shit about "boy", but now with boysfeetclub.com and boyfunk.com.... it's a little hard to take the boy out of boyfunk.

We are seriously discussing alternate branding (creating a new tour, on a different domain, without objectionable language) and may well do that as we prepare our next revision of our sites.

I even use the word 'teenboy' in one of my website names. Do you really think once the use of words like 'boy', 'teen', 'teenboy' are banned by law, they would stop? Twink, lads and the like would be the next on their list of witch hunt. You ought to draw a line somewhere. I wouldn't stop calling a teenboy a teenboy just because it could be 'indicating' something which is not true. The true criminals have always used secret words to cover up their illegal activities.

I think the 'ban' on words like 'teen' and 'boy' simply has some kind of economical reason. Those words have been declared unacceptable because their filter systems always disintegrated into smoke and they had to go through everything manually. It simply involves to much personal resources and this means costs. Putting a ban on these words saves them a hell of money, but does nothing to fight against crime and illegal activities.

Just wait until everyone uses lads in website names, what will be the next word you are venturing on? It's the content that counts, not the words!

There are other variances of the word boy that is much more inclusive of males in general and doesn't imply underage:

Just one of the boys, boys night out, birthday boy, hangin' with the boys, good 'ole boy politics, bad boys (the movie), game boy, playboy, soldier boy, support our boys in uniform, boys in blue (police), best boy (film production), Boys In the Band, boys will be boys, Boy's Town (Chicago), boytoy, Fatboy Slim, dough boy, bugle boy, boyfriend, rich boys, po'boy sandwich, busboy, billionaire boy's club, lover boy, homeboy, posterboy, Beach Boys, la-Z-boy furniture, cowboy, Los Lonely Boys, hell even Boy George

Yet a good 99% of those uses have nothing to do with porn that could potential imply underage.

Well, so much for my idea of creating a porn site featuring Boy George look-alikes...
