you know how when you go to a product on amazon, they try and upsell you by saying the item is better bought with something related? it's usually something that costs the same or less. well, i was looking for a CF card and was looking at a cheapie - a $23 transcend - and guess what the upsell was. a $763.50 digital rebel XTI.

after i finished laughing, i had to wonder if anyone has ever actually bought a rebel while buying that $23 card

I was looking at a site to buy a new script this afternoon, i added it to my cart, went to checkout and the charge was over $4000!!

The 'script' itself only cost $500, but they 'automatically' added a bunch of plugins, plus dedicated hosting and domain name registration to my order, i dread to think how many people work for large corporations and dont even bother checking how much they are actually going to be charged on some of these sites.

I had that happen just yesterday when on the Amazon site. I'd added an item to my cart and after the page reloaded it had two more things in there "they thought I'd like" ... like hell --- I didn't like having to sit there and take the time to delete them out before I could move on with the order.

I think Amazon does an amazing cross-sell on their products and fantastic email targeted marketing too. If I could do that good of a job, I think I would be a multi-millionaire too

Oprah's trainer Bob Greene does that on his site. You sign up for the one-month membership, and hidden in the TOS is the agreement that you are signing up for three months. If you cancel after the first month, they still bill you for three. And this isn't like on porn sites where they default to a three-month membership. They actually hide this in the TOS that no one ever reads. (Well I don't anyway.) And when you call them back and threaten to chargeback, they just say, "Go ahead."

Oh I do like seeing what others bought type stuff and user reviews etc on the product page, but this adding stuff to my cart must be something new as I don't recall that happening prior to this.
