You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Is Your Safety An Issue With Being An Adult Webmaster?

I often wonder how models and photographers deal with the issue of 'safety' for both the models and the producers, not to mention how people who travel all over the world to the conventions handles their safety too.

Im curious to see how you folks felt about whether working in the adult industry was a 'safe' job so far as health and liability goes?

For example, now that many are listing their home address for their 2257 records, are they concerned that some whackjob could just show up at their home one day un-announced?

It seems to me that what was once a relatively safe and inconspicuous business, now seems to be getting more and more 'public' in terms of the information 'we' have to legally share with people that regular companies dont.

Your thoughts, does the safety or you, your employees and models weigh heavily on you during the course of a year?

    Regards,

    Lee

I've heard a few stories about crazy stalker fans - but they all revolved around finding out where the studios were, not where the models lived.

I'm not sure if things are really that more public - 2257 regulations mean the IDs are on file - but they are on file in vaults or behind locked doors or password protected computers - or all three.

Now all that said, there is the case in Ottawa about the couple who ran "My Sexy Wife" (if I remember the site correctly). A neighbour purchased a membership and, of course, recognized them. For some reason, that neighbour galvanized the community church against them and they became targets of vandalism and crimes (perpetrated by the church no less) and ultimately the couple were given protection from the RCMP (our version of the FBI).

    Crazy! But, porn did prevail.

    *wink*

Steve Lightspeed had a situation where some major media (NY Times?) was doing a big article on him. They were supposedly going to take pains to obscure both his identity and where he lived, but they did a shoddy job of both, and his neighbors (in a nice, upscale, gated community) found out. He had been very low key, but involved in the community and the school, and all the sudden his kids weren't allowed to play with other kids, families did all sorts of nasty stuff.

He ended up moving to a different community and now he's completely low key, doesn't interact with neighbors or tell anyone what he does.

It's really sad because the people in the first community lost out on someone who was genuinely interested, had the time and money to contribute, and all because of a perceived bias.

It wasn't until the last show ...

Usually I'm not the one that works the late night parties .. the last show roy was pretty ill .. so I put in an appearance at a few. I thought it was very cute and lovely, that dear Juan offered to walk me back to my room, every night.

Silly Juan, I thought .. who would hurt Dear Madame?

Well DOH! There's like 400 drunk guys on one floor, anything can happen.

So, I'm walking w/ 2 guys from one party, down the hall to the next. One next to me and one behind w/ a vid camera. I thought nothing of it, when the guy walking with me, hooked his arm in mine. I'm thinkin'g follow the yellow brick road .. and all of a sudden my head is getting pushed down towards his crotch.

I guess it pays to be short sometimes .. I just slipped under his arm .. grabbed him by the hair and asked him if he'd seen my Husband, the Big dude, bald head, ex paratrooper Okie .. cause he better know him on sight .. cause he would KILL him for touching me.

He once told me never to pick a fight for him .. he was too old to beat the shit out of anyone anymore, and would have to go for a death blow.

I didn't tell him about it till we were on the way home ..

Good job he told me .. and gave me a lesson on self defence. I can now kill quickly and quietly with an ad specialty item. And I will ALWAYS accept an offer from a Friend to be escorted, safely Home.

    On a lighter note ..

    Thinking back ..

Good thing she met US in the hallway.

    The same day...

The same day we began posting our home address in the 2257 area of our site we also had ADT come and install motion sensors on the ground floor and basement, window alarms, door alarms, and panic buttons on every floor of our house.

We are not "paranoid", but thought it would be prudent and would sleep better.

Sometimes I worry about it, but not from strangers...as most attacks come from people you know.

I am more worried about it when models come over to film, etc. After the Cobra incident, we now have more people over for shoots (on "our side") and never interview models alone. We ALWAYS use the buddy system.

wow, I'd never thought of it that way. I love working in the adult industry and have never had any issues like that. The worst I get is RSI from wanking, I mean typing, so much!

I'm happy that we have gotten only one or two threats over the past 8 years. I've always thought that we'd get picketed or something outside our office but no such luck - would be great pir though... They picket the furriers and others around town every once in a while

There's a quiet calm over Beverly Hills - not much in the way of real exciting crimes although some people get bashed over their heads for the excessive cash or jewelry people tend to haul around - oh, and those way expensive cars

Thank god we drive around in a 15 year old jeep and I usually wear my "unrecognizable" - "don't look at me" gear

We sure have pulled in our share of fan mail and fan sightings over the years - mostly though, people are very, very friendly

Can't say they have been for our neighbor and colleague Larry Flynt - bless his soul for taking on the battles for our industry...

when we first got online and realized our whois info was public, we feared we'd hear from dozens of angry christians and right wingers would send us angry emails and we'd have to be careful.

in 11 years, we've heard from 1 right winger, 1 christian and gotten only one physical piece of mail from a weird weird person who turned out - ironically - to be another webmaster. no threats, no stalkers from webmastering. looks like we wasted all that perfectly good worry
