blog posts: how many pics do you recommend?

Within blogs, how many pics per post do you recommend? Is one big one good or several? And is it the bigger the better or do thumbs achieve the same clickthrough rates?

Thumbs work just as well as long as the user can save them. I found, at least one HQ shot, maybe a head or face shot, to show quality, and then your thumbs.
