Why is this niche almost absent from the gay porn scene?

Ok, I need to rant, and this is the best place for it. My rant can hopefully give someone an idea to fill a huge hole in a huge niche.

Amateur sites. Gay amateur sites.

I'm working on a major project and it involves amateur sites. Now, I'm not talking about the 'fake' amateur sites put out by huge sponsors. I'm talking about sites run by single girls who do all the web work, shoot photos and videos with both male and female friends, have live webcam chats/shows several times a week, and interact with their customers.

I needed 150 of these sites for my project. I easily found 150 str8 sites, run by single girls, or couples.

I found 2 gay sites. One is a web cam site featuring lots of guys, and another was 2 guys on cam when they had a chance. I only wanted sites with an affiliate program, so they weren't viable.

So, 1:150 ratio. This sucks. WHERE are all the hot studs with webcams??? Why aren't they taking advantage of this? There are literally millions of single girl websites out there. But, where are the hot guys?

A friend asked me a while back about doing this. He thought he and his b/f could do cam shows a few times a week. He's fairly cute (not my type, I like bears!) for a skinny 21 year old kid. Once I explained that he HAD to produce content continually, and even if he felt like hell, or fought with his b/f, he still HAD to be on the site. He quickly decided against this.

Another friend regularly cyber cams with guys he 'meets' online. He's pretty sexy in his own way, hung extremely well and really personable with a sexy New Zealand accent. I keep wanting to approach him about this idea ....

So tell me, why aren't there more sites like this out there? While I realize it's a lot of work, it's a full time job, but the financial rewards can be astounding.

18 year old gay boys will get on yahoo or msn & wack off when they feel the urge, a few nites a week for whoever is watching, but thats about as much work as theyre willing to do. running a site or being reliable to the point of having a schedule for said wack sessions is incomprehensible to most young gay guys.

As Dale stated its more than probably a lack of the guys willing to do it and, when models are found, they usually end up flaking out at the last minute because they realize it actually involves some work

Ok, having actually done this for a living...and having kept a pretty good eye on trends...I have to agree with everyone else. The only way that kind of situation really works well for any significant time is in a studio setting where the models are employees.

However, I would suggest asking AndyMike about his models, he always seems to find hot guys willing to work well. Most of the guys that work out of homes though, do it for a little extra cash....it's not like there's a huge work ethic there. Even running the studio it was hard to have models keep to a schedule. :whip:

I know a lot of the models have "escort" sites, but they are mostly just barely a step up from a geo cities site as far as design, and aren't setup in any way for offering an affilate sponsorship -- they're pretty much "free sites" offering up some bio info and a few freebie galleries. Too bad on that too, as some of those guys certainly have enough content at this point to do personal websites and put em out there as a pay site.

I just think there is a huge niche out there that no one is capitalizing on. While my project/site will not be gender specific, since 99% of the sites in the project are single females, the site will cater to single men. It sure would be nice if I had options to offer the bicurious guys.

123Jason, you say the guys do it for a little cash. I know of women with single girl sites doing 10-20 signups per day at 20 bucks a pop, and the retention rate is amazing. When you consider that they supply the content themselves, there aren't many expenses left.

It sounds lucrative to me.

If I were 20 years younger, and a model, I'd probably be one with a website like that, too

I don't think it is nearly as lucrative for the home amateur guy cams as it is for the home amateur women cams. I did the amateur home cam thing for a couple of years, and even had some other cams on my site for a while. (I was certainly too micro-niched to pull in many sales by myself). But even so one of the young, muscular home cam guys with a huge Yahoo group said last year that the new credit card charges may put him under.

You can find these types of home guy cams listed at jasbits, peepingmoe, or any of the live web cam top lists.

I suspect the home amateur guy cams as paysites lost a lot of their appeal when Yahoo and MSN messenger cams became popular. So many regular gay guys now just fire up their home cams when they're horny and find another guy to cam with for free. I sure doubt that straight guys are finding women willing to reciprocate on Yahoo or MSN cams as easily!

I have this friend who must have at least 50 CDs full of clips with guys he's talked with on ICUII. He used to spend hours on this thing.

Last time I was on there.
There were 4 chatrooms for gay guys, and then numerous fetish ones full of people caming with each other.

Then you have IRC and the netmeeting rooms. Add to that MSN and Yahoo and who needs to pay for some dude to watch him jack off when you can have it for free.

One thing that HASNT been mentioned yet in this thread that really should be is that many of the surfers who join amateur sites, be they male or female ones do so for a reason other than the 'porn' aspect.

In fact, knowing several solo male amateur site owners myself a lot of their members stay members because they have built friendships with the models in question.

In all honesty the people joining these sites (especially the male ones) are both male and female surfers looking for friendships and the chance to meet their favored amateur face to face (so to speak) in fact, if you can attract the afficionado surfer who joins an amateur website for the sole purpose that they like the model and nothing more then you can in fact get a stream of long term recurring revenues

As webmasters we tend to look at a single viewpoint of our surfers and that is that they join our sites to get off and, whilst this does play a role in the reason they join these payites there is so much more to it too.

Community is going to be the next big thing in the adult industry and from looking at various stats that i have available from the Stud Money sites, our members spend as much, if not more time looking at things like the news feeds, community forums and even clicking the niched community news links than they do watching porn feeds or looking at stills.

Yes, we are in the porn business but we have so many other things to offer our surfers joining porn sites that quite often the simplest things are overlooked because they are just that... to simple
