Ok - we are having an interoffice conflict here....

Our webmaster is convinced that offering our clips ONLY in flash is a GOOD thing. It prevents piracy, takes less time to process, etc.

My contention is that Flash is unstable, and piracy is not a real issue for us....

Am I being hopelessly old fashioned? Has anyone here moved to a 100 percent flash model - and what has been your experience?

flash does not prevent piracy. it might be more difficult, but unless you explicitly use some kind of DRM it's not that difficult to rip.

I have heard that the files are quite large, so it may also be less economical.

I went to a non-adult convention in June called Web Video, and Flash was all the buzz there. Though the decision to go all Flash is not 100% clearcut right now, I think it will be the format of the future. Just my gut feeling.

Is your webmaster referring to Flash downloads or Flash streaming? - there are different pros/cons...

Flash can be easily saved off of sites using a simple browser plugin (download helper for firefox) or an external utility.

However, I do think they are all the rage for a reason. Flash produces crisp, clean videos that are smaller and faster to download and with youtube/myspace pretty much everyone has flash installed. Hunkmoney has loads of flash FHGs and they do well (maybe due to the extra ad space available on flash pages). Plus we are working on flash within the members areas and offering affiliates embedded flash videos for their blogs or other promo sites.

There is a new Flash player coming out this fall that includes an optional form of DRM.
