We're watching coverage of it now ... man, that's like something right out of one of those earthquake movies.

I spent 15 years in Minneapolis, and travelled that bridge a lot. It took a while to figure out which bridge because they kept saying "the bridge over the Mississippi River", but there are MANY bridges over the Miss River in Mpls, and now I feel I know which one!

This one carries a lot of traffic between the downtown and the U of MN. Lot of cute guys at the U of MN... several of which are on my sites!

That's horrible. The way they said cars had burst into flames upon falling and hitting debris in the water just makes me shudder

I was supposed to be there yesterday. But we had to return home (road trip) because the dog became ill. But I'm flying back tonight for a family visit. Most of my family and friends live there. This is just awful.

All of which of course begs the question about spending Billions in Iraq, while the Bush allied administration in Minnesota is spending little on roads.

The Gov there is of the mindset that the "believers" should not be taxed now (for roads, bridges, education, welfare) because they are going to be raptured in a few months/years anyway, and they should enjoy their money now!

Seriously! The whole State is crying about no money for construction!

Truly a sad commentary on the state of our declining infrastructure. Colorado (where I live) has 150 major bridges that are listed by the state as "In need of Major renovation".

Our roads, our schools, our health care system...

Makes me want to get drunk.

But then again, most things do.

I can't imagine how scary it must have been (and is) for everyone involved.

Unfortunatly, a similar, but not as sad, thing happened in Montreal at the beginning of the summer. Five dead. It went down in one shot on rush hours.
