Paysite Vs. Community + Paysite

I have talked to people looking for advice on a "community" style paysite, where everything is free and up-front. The blog, forum, chat, affiliate promo content and also offer a membership area for site exclusive content.

But, I have seen them ask the same question on the forums and their response was given in the assumption of the site being 100% behind a membership area. And that it would never work.

A working example of their idea would be Just Us Boys and their Boys Club

Where Just us Boys is a free community for registered and non-registered users to view, chat, blog, comment and ad a personal review. Boys Club is their exclusive video section as a site bonus with paid membership.

So my main question is the clarification when asking questions. How do we break the mindset of every Forum user simply talking about a standard paysite and how to we help people who are looking for one thing but can't iterate the correct question?

I guess there are at least two models.
1. Community is free with separate section that is a paysite.
2. Entire site is a paysite with a community section for paid members.

Profile/Dating sites have a model about the same as #1. Community is free, but some of the services are premium/pay services.
