    Straight porn HIV cases ??

OK So I get tested for HIV regularly. But I've been told and have long believed that testing procedures aren't perfect and that there's a window of time following exposure and infection of about 3-6 months that an individual can be infected without that showing up on their HIV test. Right?
So these straight porn stars are tested every few weeks and certified as "safe" so long as their most recent test is negative.

But... if they're exposed and infected and their latest test came within that window, then they could not only be infected but pass on HIV to someone else despite having a "Negative" test to show.
... right? So doesn't that mean that the entire testing system straight porn operates with is completely medically unsound? As in the certifications of "safe and HIV-" really can't be anything more than estimations? That you could have who knows how many people HIV+ and making movie after movie with countless other models, all the while being HIV+ but just within that window of time where tests are not yet able to detect it...
If that first guy was HIV+ and they assume he got it from a shoot in Brasil a week or 2 before the test... why couldn't he have conceivably gotten it anywhere from a week or 6 months before his test? And thus you'd have to quarantine everyone he'd been with in the half year leading up to his positive test result... and everyone they'd been with...
Or do they use some kinda fancy shmancy super duper testing technique that gives immediate results?

I've known straight guys who have had all kinds of sex with girls, unprotected, just because the girl was on the pill. They really thought that AIDS was a gay disease and they didn't have to worry about it.

The one silver lining in this tragedy is that maybe it will be a wakeup call to people who don't think it could happen to them.

OK, how's this for Sex Education failing?

I used to manage a video store out in Scarborough, and I was talking about HIV with my teenage staff. One of the girls said she didn't have to worry about getting HIV, because she was on the pill, and thought that since HIV was carried by Sperm (wrong) and that the pill killed sperm (wrong) that she was protected. (really really wrong)

The fact that there are people in 2004 that still don't know what most people in the gay community knew 20 years ago is frightening.

The fact that there are so few cases of HIV in the straight community is asstounding.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

You know its crazy its not just the straight 'surfers' that dont seem to know anything about hiv/aids but a lot of us 'webmasters' are truly clueless about the whole thing too.

Had a thread link sent through board tracker to me earlier and it was.. interesing to say the least.

The scariest thing was even though in the industry its only the straight porn stars who have caught HIV a lot of the posters on a certain board were still saying that it only affects gay men and women

We live in a crazy world and work in an even crazier industry it seems

    Regards,

a few years ago, i got a ticket and went to traffic school. during lunch, the comedian who taught this "class" told me she lectured at high schools about sex.

she told me that she was vocal about girls being on the pill. i said that i thought condoms were safer - not only are teenage girls' bodies not fully mature, but the pill did nothing to stop hiv. besides, i think males should also take some responsibility.

her response to me was the teenagers were pretty much free from hiv. i recommended she look into tests from ucla/maraposa foundation - teenagers were seeing more hiv all the time. she didn't believe me - and SHE was out there as an adult expert talking to kids.

    fucking great.

I remember going to church when I was in college and the priest was saying how we shouldn't have organizations like M.A.D.D. and S.A.D.D. because it promoted drinking and driving, and we shouldn't teach safe sex in schools because it promoted promiscuity. I mean, people look up to these guys for spiritual leadership and here he is selling our kids up the river because of his antiquated ideas. Grrr.
