You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?
Anyone Else Have A PC Hooked Up To Their Flat Screen?
If so, how do you handle storing media files etc so that you can play them on your TV?
Right now im in the process of encoding around 500 DVDs and im putting them on a 1 TB hard drive but im beginning to see the space is going to run out very soon and wondered if there was a better way to do this?
I had thought about setting up a bank of drives and putting a switch in between them and the PC but that could become problematic switching between drives to find a movie to watch.
Anyone have any ideas on a solution to this problem that doesnt involve masses of external drives?

Lee

applyTV is only 200 hours of video and doesn't answer the need for storage of your current "physical" library storage of 500+ movies.
Lee, if you were to compress the files, you would go against the demand for quality. I would almost say, pick up a few more ExtHD's and run a program (excel or the like) to store your lists and ExtHD location.
I once thought about setting up an in-house server to store media with a media center interface between the blades and the TV.

Why a switch? That confuses me.
Lacie has a great 2t hd. Use two of them. Or go with a network storage solution.

I am straight, but my ass is gay
the way we're going to do it
is with my own box. Unless something compelling comes out, ready out of the box.
My first plan:
assemble a whole new box with either linux or vista on it
Have 4 1TB hard drives in a raid 5
if i go with windows then i'll just get media center extenders for every room to pull content from the central server or if I go with linux any media extender that's able to tap into the box and look for certain formats of media.
The only problem with the above is that I also want cable tv without the cablebox, that includes TiVo too, and seeing as CableCard on PCs will only happen from manufacturers I'd probably have to get something already made - Dell will sell XPSes that have ATI OCUR so then maybe i'll just build on that.
