I agree with Luke. There is enough free stuff out there to get the casual surfer off. I think that is actually a good thing. Those guys would never stick around as members for the long term any way so who needs them.

The difference is that for those who will pay they really need to feel that they are getting a good "bang" for their buck. That is our job. Provide that bang.

I just checked a few torrents, ed2k, mirc and the newsrooms. I think it's safe to say, yes. As long as there are ways to obtain full movies, Not just the "free site" shit clips of 30 seconds, you will have people who will NEVER pay for porn.

I'm a member of a few active forums from my home town and from time to time, I'll ask them If they would pay for porn. The answer is almost always no. The yes comes form people talking about sites that promote rare vintage content they can't find anywhere else. And once they do pay for it, they upload it to private servers for everyone else.

The mentality most webmasters have, from what I can see is that surfers only use torrents and blogs to find free stuff. Free feature length movies are everywhere and surfers know what to do to get them. In this one aspect, I would almost call the webmaster naive and behind the times.

The main reason, I hear, for stealing content over joining a website is the cost. They find the price bloated for the actual amount of content offered.

They also cite the days of a $5.00 one time membership fee to programs like adultcheck and access to a bunch of sites.

Absolutely. Especially never pay for it online.

I am a decent size seller on Ebay and have 1,000s of positive feedback. However when I run auctions for coins and rare items, MOST prefer to pay by money order. In fact, when I didn't offer it a few asked if they could pay that way as they do not "trust" online transactions. Some just don't trust it.

There are others who will just never pay for anything that they can get for free, or even if they can't get for free will still not pay for it. Hell, to some people $30 is a lot of money. They just don't have it.

Many surfers who goto torrent sites are looking for something in particaular. A weird fetish? Who knows?

It drives me crazy when webmasters say surfers don't buy porn because there is so much free shit on the web. There was enough free porn on the web five years ago to make my dick fall off. The industry has grown. Free porn HELPS webmasters as there are enough people that like quality. They sample the FREE porn and buy a membership for a quality product. Without free porn you will never attract these people.

When I launched my paysite. Day ONE - I put all my videos on the torrent sites. It was the best ROI I ever got. My logo became branded as good for your dick. Surfers remember that.

You can probably break the lifetime freeloaders down into two or three groups. These surfers are likely a next to impossible sale.

- The guy who is concerned over security. Maybe he is worried that the credit card statement will be too revealing. Could be the threat of identity theft from his assumption that a "sleazy porn company" will have his full CC details. May also be a fear over hidden charges. Just an overall bad feeling that something could go wrong with this transaction.

- The guy who will seek out free porn, and is perfectly content with whatever he can find. For him, no members area is impressive enough to consider buying into. Lackluster TGP galleries and 15 second clips get him off. This is the same guy who even ten years ago wasn't buying.

I'm inclined to think there may also be a third group. That would be the people who refuse to pay for anything sexual. Just as they won't ever hire an escort, they may feel as though paying for porn would diminish that experience also. They might not think of it that way. It would be more like, "I'm not paying to jerk off."

This is very true.

I actually read a study where a claim was made that torrent sites cost XYZ industry so many million a year.

The whole study was flawed as it took into account the value of the good sdownloaded for a certain amount of torrent sites. Nowhere did it mention that maybe 90% of the people that surf torrent sites will never buy anything in their life related to XYZ industry.

I think we as webmasters look at figures from the Movie Industry claiming that billions are being lost and then we think we are losing sooo much money. It's total BS if you look at those numbers. How many surfers that download Movies are members of netflix and never buy a movie anyways? You can't compare losing $25 on a dvd sale to losing what a studio loses on a netflix rental.

While no concrete studies have been done, I would say torrent sites expose surfers to porn that they have not seen before and they may buy.

I know a lot of (german) guys who don't have a credit card (about 60% of my friends) so they won't be able to buy a membership on an american site (or it would be much more complicated).

So none of them will pay for porn.

And as you mentioned above there are so many torrent sites out there that it's not necessary any more to buy a membership if you don't look for something very specific.

I think at the end of the day, somewhere along the line, they'll see something they like and not feel up to searching it down on the various torrents and will pay a small fee to see it..... then promptly upload it to all the free sites they visit regularly

the best you can hope for is to make your site/buisness/etc. as attractive as possible without giving away have the store and hope for the best. ( interpreted: i still haven't joined fratmen or corbinfisher , it doesn't mean i don't want to , it just means that both sites contain only 1 -2 guys i want to see which falls short of the required 3 + models required to join any site. )

I know this is going to sound odd coming from someone who works in the industry but sometimes people just don't have the money. I remember a time where I would see an add for a movie I really wanted to see but the $80 DVD price tag meant I could buy one porn movie or I could eat for a week. So there are some people who use whatever resources they can just because they don't have the money to pay. Then there are people with tons of expendable income who will take whatever they can without paying just because it's out there.

And the overstated dick sizes with airbrushed covers and $80 porn DVDs don't help things either. I'd rather spend my money on a Heroes or Galactica DVD, which cost much less too, than some porn flick
