If you have only exclusive video content, how much is needed before you can launch a paysite ?

How big a difference in the amount of content when talking about niche vs "mainstream/vanilla/normal hardcore" content ?

How much content do you have in the can total?

You can get away with launching a site with a bit less content on niche sites, but not much, unless it's a ground breaking super amazing niche where they just gotta see it.

Opening a regular site with 20 shoots and 2 months in the can, on a site that updates once a week, would be a safe secure start.

depends. if you want to soft launch and get things going, but don't expect maximum retention while you get things tweaked, 12 - 15 episodes will keep members from complaining and is enough to get you approved by your processor. i've seen sites launch with 8 episodes. retention wasn't very good to start, but it allowed them to get going.

if it is a VERY scarce niche, you might see good retention with 12 - 20 episodes on the site. but what niche the site is, how scarce the niche is and how often you update fully will affect rention of a smaller site. also how long the movies are.

Excellent question...we are getting ready to launch a new pay site in a micro niche (young Latino and fetish) and we had been wondering the same thing. Your replys were pretty much on the mark that we had estimated.
