University of Texas student starting on campus porn club: Club X

SAN ANTONIO -- A University of Texas at San Antonio student is in the planning stages of forming a pornography club on campus, station KSAT 12 reported.

The student, Riley Jackson Starr, is posting fliers on campus in hopes of recruiting at least five students to Club X, which would watch and discuss sexually oriented materials.

"We'll look to see if it violates any of our policies here at UTSA," said Vice-President David Gabler said.

He added that Starr has yet to submit the proper paperwork, which would need to be reviewed by attorneys.

Starr would also be required to get a professor to be an official adviser, which hasn't happened yet.

"You know, this is our school and we want to project a good image to other people and other schools," a male student said. "And so, to have kids in Club X would kind of give us that bad impression."

"I don't think sexual activity should be brought to our school other than for informational purposes," a female student said.

In her MySpace.com page, Starr claims to be strip club dancer. ( SOURCE )

Do you think he'll be stopped? How many male professors do you think secretly would jump at the chance to be the required "official advisor"?

It is my guess that they will be stopped...or more likely, unable to find the professor willing to risk his/her tenure track back being the sponser.

On the otherhand, find some crazy tenured English Professor or someone who is already tenured...and it could get interesting.

My campus has clubs for everything from skydiving to walking. They all get university funding if there is at least 10 members.

I wonder if they need any corporate sponsers?

Right I wonder if any professor is willing to risk it as well. There has to be some old tenured professor at the university that just doesn't give a shit and want to rock the boat :bananacock:

Now University funding for porn.. that's a whole nother story

    Porn..Art or Trash?

I didn't get enough information from the original message to properly form a decision on this issue. What is the mission statement of this "club"? Do they wish to gather with like minded individuals to view and discuss porn or is the porn just a form of foreplay for anticipated orgiastic activities? If the former is the true purpose of this "club", then I believe they could find the right professor to chair the club. University funding is a different story. The long and heated debate over porn as art or just trash film making puts a massive damper on the idea of a state University allocating funds to a "porn club". The University and it's Alumni would be completely up in arms over that subject. If the "club" is legitimate and it's founders thoughts are simply to provide a place for people to gather and openly discuss and view adult oriented films and photographs, then I say kudos to Starr.
