When Does 'Sex' Become Porn?

I was reading an interesting editorial earlier this morning (unfortunately i cant find the link now) which was basically asking, with all the nudity we see on television, in the movies, in commercials, shows, etc...

At what point does 'sex' actually become 'porn'?

What makes one form of nudity acceptable but another not?

It then went on to describe 'urges' and all that kind of fluff but i thought that was actually a really good question, at what point in time does 'sex' become pornography?

I think that when the main focus of the work is sex then it could be considered porn. When sex is just a part of the total work then it is not.

Now you're getting back to that bit at the Pentagon about some dirty mags not being 'pornographic' because it has advertisements in it, so it's not 'completely, 100% pornographic'. Therefore, it's okay....

As far as I'm concerned, if sex is recorded, (or I suppose performed, in the case of live-sex) which is then used as sexual fodder either immediately, or after the fact... then that sexual act would be considered pornographic. Although, I would give the leeway of intent, at the least. There are some people who get off on pictures of nude roman statues of Aphrodite.

I have to agree with Lee (MiamiB); if the main focus is not on the sex, then it's not porn...

A GREAT example would be the movie 'Shortbus'... The actors are actually having sex on camera; but that is not the focus of the movie at all, it's simply a necessary part.

I've seen shortbus and was stunned - great movie...

Wikipedia on pornography: Pornography or porn is, in its broadest state, the explicit representation of the human body or sexual activity with the goal of sexual arousal and/or sexual relief.

Shortbus HAS some nice szenes - but they are not directly stimulating (or are they ) the viewer but are part of the whole plot.

I'm sure it's the crash. If they had to restore from a slightly older backup, then anything posted since the backup would have been lost.
