Is 2257 Over And Done With?

It certainly seems like it is since that decision to overturn part of the regulations a month or two nothing has been discussed on many forums about 2257.

Does anyone know whats currently going on with inspections or the regulations as a whole right now?

Im hoping this isnt just another case of complacency on the part of the industry because we didnt have an attorney general for a month or two.

    Regards,

    Lee

The 6th Circuit decision may have stopped the heart of 2257 but it sure as hell ain't dead yet.

For everywhere other than the 6th Circuit 2257 is still enforceable law, so don't start celebrating.

I really doubt the FBI will expend much time, energy or resources on inspections while the 6th Circuit case is winding its way through its own appeals system, and I think we can start measuring 2257 for its coffin but for right now, just keep working as if nothing happened. We will know soon enough if 2257 is overturned.

Expect the US Congress to write a new law in its place, however.

of course even if 2257 is RIP, expect new improved and worse to follow

The other thought that comes to mind is "be careful what you wish for..."

The new law will almost have to be more narrow if it's to get past the problem faced by 2257... but that also assumes that 2257 won't be reinstated by the Supremes, and given the losers on there now, I don't think it's by any means a foregone conclusion that they will uphold the appeals court ruling.
