I Wonder? Advice on this Domain name please :)

    Hello

    My first post

I own the domain name MaleTalent.com When I originally bought it, I was going to do something for the guys who work in porn films: the 'Male Talent'.

However I never got round to it, and it was suggested to me that it might make a good domain for a gay dating site...

Now, I am not gay myself, and as such am relatively unfamiliar with the gay side of the Internet...
Hence my first post here today.

    So my questions are:
    1) Would Maletalent.com be a good url for a gay dating site?
    And if so...
    2) Which Gay dating affiliate program would you recommend me using?

Basically I'm looking at something that I can set up and forget about. Just use a full page ad, with my ref codes in it... Ideally it would be Geo targeted...

Any suggestions or advice welcome I will of course use the ref code, to sign up under whoever gives me the best potential sponsor, or idea...

I'll check back later, thanks for reading

    Welcome to the board!!

My initial thoughts on seeing your domain would relate to some type of casting or performer resource site; don't really see how it would relate to dating at all.

It's a GREAT name and you could totally do something with it, but I don't think it would do all that well for a dating site. My $0.02 anyway

I agree with C1...it sounds more like a talent site rather than a dating site. Could you imagine the bitching if it were a straight site called FemaleTalent.com? WOW. I digress. There are some fun things you could do with the site, but it's not going to be a set it and forget it type of deal. Does anyone ever make money on that type of site?

i'm with them - when i read it, the only think i thought of was casting.

you might consider selling it to an agency since it both niche specific and only 2 words.

I've passed on your post to someone in the talent industry... you may want to have a price in mind just in case you are interested in selling it?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the replies.
I appreciate the insight into things from the gay perspective.
I'd like to address a few of the points raised, and explain why I was thinking along the lines that i was...

Firstly I spent approx 7 years in LA involved in the straight porn scene. My ex wife was talent and she did over 400+ movies... So I was around the porn terminology, which is where I got the term male talent from.

To me, Male Talent meant a stud. A muscular, fit, attractive guy, usually with a large cock, who by default was able to get hard and perform athletic sex, for long periods of time...

Take the porn equation out of it, and you have the same guy.... But I was thinking that from the perspective of the gay community, that perhaps 'Male Talent' would mean the same thing... Hence the idea for the dating site...

However it appears I am completely wrong LOL and I thank you all for pointing that out to me...

Regarding the viability of 'set it and forget it' (Is it possible to make money like that?) I would answer yes, it is, and its the way I make most of mine...

I find it easy to make a small amount of $$$ than a large amount of $$$ from anything on the net, so rather than try to get $$$$$ from one project, I prefer to do many many different projects, and make a smaller $$ many times over...

It also means that all my eggs are not in the same basket, but anyway, I digress... My point really being that Im in the biz very much longterm, as opposed to just wanting to make a quick buck...

Which leads me on to do I want to sell?

Well, I also have the .co.uk version of the name, which Ive been using as a forum board for UK guys wanting to get into porn... You can see it at maletalent.co.uk

However its nothing amazing, and attracts more spambots than posters LOL

But if I were to sell, (And I'm not 100% adverse to doing so) I could also include the .co.uk version along with the .com (if required) to sweeten the deal...

I do believe as pointed out, its a good name, 2 words, well targeted etc... But for me to develop it in any way other than a set it and forget it... Isn't really likely to happen...

I couldn't honestly see myself running a gay site, if only for the reason that not being gay, I wouldn't be able to judge if it were 'on target' so to speak...

Obviously, dealing with gay content certainly isn't a problem to me... But its difficult / impossible for me to apply the usual rule of thumb, ie, does it do it for me? That I can apply with the non gay stuff...

Anyway, Im rambling... If anyone's interested in buying it, please make me an offer. Or if anyone who's more familiar with the buying and selling and valuation of a domain like MaleTalent.com would like to broker for me, get me a really great offer, and take 20% Commision... I'm open to that as well...

All I would stipulate is that it would all be done transparently, above board etc... But the offers there...

Ball park figure? Cant say, but I would hope it to be a semi decent amount, as I am in the UK now, and so one dollar is worth less than half a UK Pound...

And like I said, I am not really after a quick buck as such...
But I am open to any offers...

Thanks again for taking the time to reply, and to read this reply
I'll check back later. Thanks again.

this isn't really about the gay industry. femaletalent.com would have the same meaning to most people. talent was used as a slang term when picking up people for sex, but it's an older expression that way that is mostly out of use whereas talent is known from the highest producers in hollywood on down to refer to actors.

after i posted that, i asked arie - who isn't in the business or gay - what he thought maletalent.com was and he thought it was a mainstream modeling angency.

well, sort of - but i still say that it's a GREAT domain for a modeling agency, short and easy to remember. maybe you could put it up for sale at sedo and a few other places or auction it off. to the right person, this would be a rockin' domain!
