You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

With The Recent Death Of That Model Im Wondering...

How do you think the families of other models feel about seeing their pictures on the web for years after their passing?

If you find out a model has passed away, do you remove their content from your sites?

To be honest i have never really thought about this until now but it strikes me that a lot of us who have been in the business for many years are probably using images of dead pornstars on our sites.

Do you think if it is confirmed a model/pornstar has died that their images should no longer be used?

    Regards,

    Lee

We see movies with dead actors in them, why not porn with dead models?

I would be willing to bet that many porn star's families were not thrilled to find out they were in porn in the first place. The idea of having their loved ones remembered as the hottie in Boys/Girls Gone Wild # 12 is undoubtedly salt in an open wound. I wish that people would put their prejudices aside and look at the situation from THIS perspective: Their loved ones brought a sense of happiness and joy or excitement into the lives of thousands of people when they were alive. Although they have passed on now, people still find that same happiness, joy and/or excitement while being entertained by their loved one. I for one would be much happier to remember a loved one of mine in that manner. I can think of much more horrific legacies to have to endure from loved ones. If we remove content from our sites of entertainers that have passed away, aren't we agreeing with the moralists that adult entertainment is wrong? Aren't we just sweeping the performer under the carpet and forgetting about them? I for one hope that I am remembered for my work in the adult entertainment industry for a long, long time.

    Lee,
A few years back we did a very hot spanking shoot with a young man here in Denver. Back then, it took me a few weeks to get things edited and then made into our VHS tapes for retail.

A few days later at school, the campus newspaper had a headline about a student getting hit by a car while mountain biking. Sure enough, it was our model.

Turns out he had a brand new wife and baby.

We never released the tapes nor told anyone about it. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

However, if we had ALREADY released the tapes to stores I doubt we would have been able to pull them all back. The internet is the same way...once it is out, it is out.

I have never removed a model from our site that I can remember once they are online...although I have moved people into the members only area and not the tours at their requests.

I think every case is a "case by case" and Chaz makes some great points.

Taking it down would be to suggest that they had done something wrong.

I think it would be an affront to their memory to remove any content featuring a model who's died.

We had a model who died and he was quite proud of the work he'd done for us. Why would we take that away from him?

It's not like they pulled Rebel Without A Cause when James Dean died.

We in the adult industry have to be proud of what we do.

Yes, it's hard when people are out there promoting their 50-load weekends and their bareback conversion porn, but hey.. some of us are proud of what we do anyway.

I think you and Chaz are right on, and looking back, I am not 100% sure we made the right decision in our case. The reason we did not release it was more to protect his wife and baby from any embarassment, because he never mentioned to us that he had a wife and kid.

That is not to say that she did not know he was making the video...maybe she did and maybe she was proud of him, etc.

But I always try to error on the side of caution. I would hate to bring pain (apart from spanking pain) to anyone for any reason if I could avoid it.

Depends on the circumstances of the death, and how knowledgeable surfers are of it.

The Zoey Zane story is pretty big right now. Her program definitely made the right decision to quickly pull the site. If she had been killed in a car accident or something, then maybe the site stays online. Most affiliates ranking high in Google have also removed her material.

I had a model die earlier this year, just weeks after we released his first video project. He was also an escort which is how we learned of his death when someone identifying himself as his best friend requested we remove the escort reviews we'd posted at cruisingforescorts.com. I took the reviews down since it no longer made sense to post reviews of a person who could no longer be hired, but I kept his photo set online and never considered pulling his video.

For me, it became an issue of whether this work is a source of shame (or should be). In my dealing with this model I was clear that he was proud of his work. Also important in my decision, this work which we paid for shouldn't be treated any differently than what a library might do if a writer dies, what a sports team would do if an athlete dies. If a person dies, their work doesn't disappear. Do I imagine his family might prefer this part of his life would go away? Yes, but my obligation is first to my business and second to those I've worked with including this now dead model.

    I totally agree.

People's choices in life should be honored; reading some of the stupid comments on a big straight webmaster board about this makes me wonder why some people are even in this industry if they think a porn career (or just a few nude shoots or whatever) is such a horribly degrading thing to come to light after someone's died.

It seems like these attitudes come a lot from male webmasters and program owners regarding women in porn; it reflects the mentality that sex work is a horrible thing for a woman to do. The bothersome part is that the guys who capitalize on women feel this way. I have to wonder why they feel okay about THEMSELVES if what they work with women to do is so horrid.

Personally? I will roll over in my grave if anyone takes my site or any of my work down after I die. Of course, it's a little different since I have control over my site rather than someone else shooting girls wearing braces and cuddling teddy bears, but still . . .
