WTF? Male Sex Addict Cases On The Rise

Sex and relationship therapists are seeing an increase in the number of men suffering from sex addiction, a BBC investigation suggests.

Almost 80% of the 43 therapists in the survey said sex addiction is a problem.

Many said the obsessive use of internet pornography is now the most common form of the condition.

The counselling service Relate has also seen a "huge increase" in people who say compulsive sexual behaviour is straining their relationship.

The therapists said that in the most extreme cases people can lose their jobs or partners because of their obsession, with some spending up to eight hours a day looking at pornographic websites.

In the questionnaire, conducted for BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat, 74% said it was becoming increasingly common to see excessive use of internet pornography as a problem in relationships.

    'Severe impact'

Whereas frequent casual sex, risk-taking sex and use of prostitutes was seen as fairly common amongst sex addicts, the use of internet pornography was seen as very common - internet pornography and 'cybersex' were often seen as anonymous, cheap and safe.

One respondent described the worst case they had come across. "The most debilitating was a man who had to have sex 10-12 times every day. Lately with internet pornography men seem to get addicted quicker".

Christine Lacy, Relate Sex therapy consultant said those with sex addiction problems felt their lives were: "spiralling out of control".

She said: "In the last two years alone, Relate has witnessed a huge increase in people presenting excessive use of internet pornography, and compulsive sexual behaviour as issues affecting their relationships.

"Their partners feel betrayed and very angry and whilst many partners are supportive, in some cases they cannot continue the relationship which obviously has a severe impact on any children they may have, their jobs and their wider families."

"Relate counsellors working with teenagers have reported that the instant availability of pornographic images on the internet and mobile phones has worrying implications for their ability to have normal sexual relationships as they grow up."

The questionnaire was completed by 43 sex and relationship therapists from across the UK.

Interesting stuff, i always thought sex addicition, when it came to 'online' porn was a crock and just used as an excuse forgetting caught watching it.

People who frequently have casual sex and use prostitutes utilize online porn more often because it's anonymous, cheap and safe. So what's the problem? We're helping these people not spread disease and turmoil by giving a safe in home alternative instead of more dangerous ones.

Man these people sure know how to take something good and spin it into something totally opposite.

    I agree with Lee.

The diagnosis of "Sex addiction" doesn't exist in regions where sexual activity is acknowledged instead of scorned. In societies where human sexuality is an accepted part of human nature "sex addiction" just does not exist, but in societies where sex is the necessary evil of reproduction, it should only be done between a married man and woman, missionary position, under the covers, lights out, only for the purpose of making a baby, NOT for any enjoyment or pleasure, and the woman does NOT get to have an orgasm, then therapists and pseudo-therapists come up with this bullshit of "Sex addiction".
Also, if someone tells you that what you or your family member is doing is a problem, then you need to hire a therapist? They create a problem and then sell you the solution!!!

I do believe some people have trouble with compulsive sexual behavior, but that is usually a symptom of a deeper issue, and therapy or counseling is in order. If an activity is severely disrupting ordinary life then there is a problem. I don't think needing sex 10-12 times a day is a problem so long as there are willing partners and the man can still be a productive member of society. If he had a big cock or was even moderately good looking he could probably get a gig doing low-budget porn (that many scenes a day he would end up saturating the market for quality stuff )
Masturbating at a computer all day, getting fired from your job, evicted from your home, and deserted by friends and family is a problem. It is probably a much deeper issue than someone's porn site being so damn good the bloke couldn't take his eyes off it. I want to say, in my best drama queen voice, "Honey, ain't NO porn site so good I want to watch every waking hour of the day!! Ain't you seen the crap they have on the Net these days!!"
