Who is considered the best hosting companies now days?

If price wasn't an issue, who would you host with?

We've been with about a dozen hosts over the past 5 years (we typically use 2 or 3 at a time for redundancy and differing needs.)

Without a doubt, I can say that National Net is completely beyond comparison with any of the other hosts I've used. They say that you can't really understand their level of service until you experience it and they are correct.

I have probably saved at least 5-10 hours a month simply by not having to worry about various maintenance/security and other issues I used to have to deal with, not to mention having a more stable and reliable network.

They are a bit more expensive than the other hosts we used or currently use, but it ends up being a better value for us in the long run because of the decrease in time and need for outside support.

we've had chilhost/national for, oh, a couple of years now I think. I've been happy with it.

Thing is, check anyone's tech support reputation. No matter how good the host, shit happens so you want to know how fast they respond and if they fix problems.

Chili does all that.

i think the most important thing for me when i choose a hosting company is whether they have competent tech people on staff at all times. sure, there is great tech support during the day, but what if something goes down at 3am on Christmas Eve? is there going to be someone to pick up the phone after 2 rings that actually has some sort of technical knowledge?

unfortunately most of the people that work the "undesirable" shifts tend to be your less-experienced tech people, who are there basically just to hit the power button. most of your more experienced tech people won't take a 3am Christmas Eve shift.

Since you're probably gonna get someone in India at 3AM for tech support anyway, don't worry about Christian Holidays.

You need to pick your host based on what you need and not the price. For example, if you need a host for a tubesite, I would look for a company that specializes in tube sites. This is especially important if you need tech support for the kind of script your going to use. My previous hosting company did not know how to set up ffmpeg and all the realated stuff to run a tube site.

When I started http://www.jizzflixxx.com picking the correct company made the whole difference. Between my knowledge of php and the tech supports knowledge, getting the script to run was the most painless of any projects that I have done.

Conclusion: Compare the companys expertise before you look at prices. A good price is a waste of money if you can not easily implement your vision and ideas on that server.
