Is this recession or economic slow down (what ever you call it) effecting your business? Or do you think it will in the near future?

We have seen a little reduction in sales but I'm not sure of the cause is yet. I don't personally think a recession now days will be as bad as the ones in years past.

I think we are in an economic slowdown.
I think it has and will have an affect on signups.
I honestly put porn in "discretionary spending"..and Americans at least..are really starting to get tight with the pocket book!

I recently spoke with some on in Brazil that said the recession in America was all over the news there every night and that most of the people there were from Europe and not very many from the United States.

Yes, this will be a huge impact on business.

I have been doing an extensive market research of pay sites and I think that you will soon see the same thing that has happened to the recording industry...

Sites will actually offer their services for a fee based on what the surfer "feels" it is worth. See RaidoHead if you not sure of this concept.

It will happen so get ready for it.

a lot of surfers have heard about the NATS thing without understanding what NATS is. many think it applies to all porn sites, so that could be affecting our industry as opposed to the recession. there's no way to know which it is, or if it's something else.

It is really the bottom line. Surfers do NOT care about 2257, or data theft.

We are seeing problems (lower sales) due to the economic issies in the USA.

I have to agree. The average surfer is clueless as to what NATS is or what 2257 means. I've asked my friends if they'd ever heard of 2257 (and they surf for porn regularly) and they just said a collective "HUH?"

yes, the average surfer IS clueless about what NATS is. however some of my very average surfer buddies did see the news, and all they understood is that joining porn sites might cause them some trouble - they weren't quite sure what that trouble might be, which made them pretty nervous.

True. We use CCBill, and after the NATS thing hit mainstream press, I had a few members contact me to find out if we were compromised.

Granted, it was only a handfull of members, but with such a small site like mine, that is a large percentage.

Back to the topic on hand however, I do not think that a recession will hurt us that much. Yes, it might hurt some, but a vice is a vice, and people still smoke, drink, (and watch porn) no matter what their economic situation is. I just think that maybe they will become more selective about the sites they join.

I also do not think small niche sites will be as affected as larger mainstream "sex" sites. Those you can find anywhere, but if you are into something very specific, it is harder to find.

I hope I am right...but I have started my savings in case I am wrong...and it is not in US dollars thats for sure!

I must disagree with with part of that statement. While it is true that they will be more selective about what sites they join, I think that an increasing number will simply NOT join any sites and simply search for FREE and/or STOLEN content sites. There are more of those than ever and if you want to be honest about it, if you want to get off online without EVER joining a membership site iT is easy and more and more will be doing it.
