Brokeback Mountain Star Heath Ledger Dead at 28!

OMG, this is such sad news. He had such a promising career ahead. I was looking forward to the new Batman movie too, and now it will be hard to watch.

    RIP Heath... :cowboy:

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday of a possible drug overdose in a Lower Manhattan apartment, the New York Police Department said.

Heath Ledger was found dead in his Manhattan apartment.

The Academy Award nominated actor was 28.

"Pills were found in the vicinity of the bed," police spokesman Paul Browne told CNN.

"This is being looked at as a possible overdose, but that is not confirmed yet."

The pills appeared to be over-the-counter sleeping medication, said police spokeswoman Barbara Chen.

Ledger was unresponsive when he was found by a housekeeper who had gone to wake him for an appointment with a masseuse in the Soho apartment, Browne said.

He was declared dead at about 3:30 p.m., Browne said.

In 2005, the actor played Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain," about two cowboys who had a secret relationship.

The role earned him the Oscar nomination.

Ledger was born in Perth, Australia. He has a young daughter with actress Michelle Williams, his co-star in "Brokeback Mountain."

"He was just so respected in the industry," said Kim Serafin, senior editor of In Touch Weekly. "It's just horribly tragic. He was just a fine actor and a good person, so this is horribly sad and very unexpected."

Ya know.. I keep thinking thinking about it, and almost being able to rationalize it being a publicity stunt to promote the Dark Knight movie, like Lucas did.

Not that I'd approve any more of it because it was Ledger... but he always was one of my favorite actors.

Not a stunt. His family did an interview.

Wow a lot of people died this month. And have you seen the Batman posters for the new movie? It's Ledger alone as the joker writing on a mirror "Why So Serious" ... it's hideous and cool. But it's also kind of creepy. I hear the Joker character makes numerous references to death all through the movie.

This really sucks. I really like his work.

First River Phoenix who played an epic Gay role in My Own Private Idaho now Heath Ledger after his role in Brokeback.

oh yeah ... forgot about him. It's strange. They say he took that bad hit of stuff after learning that his band would not be able to perform that evening (The Red Hot Chilli Peppers or something were doing an extra set). Guess his time was just up, but the idea that he might still be alive if he'd just gotten his chance to play on stage is something that always goes through my head.
