A Different Kind of Gay Site

    Hi Folks,

I'm a luker here who rarely posts. So rare that my last handle was deleted for inactivity, so my apologies for not being more involved. (I'm just quiet on bulletin boards, what can I say?)

I do post though when I need your input and advice. Today is one such day, as I just released a new adult website called AdviceGeek. It's a different sorta gay site, in that it's not a porn site. Rather, it's a gay sex advice website. I used to pen a column years ago that had a loyal following. So I'm restarting my column and beginning the long, slow process of turning a quiet website into what I hope will become a bustling metropolis of activity.

I digress. I know y'all are highly knowledgeable and resourceful people, so I was wondering if you would be interested in taking a look at my site for a few reasons.

1 - I have 380+ questions and answers on my site, but no questions in need of answering. Got a sex or relationship advice question? Now's your chance to ask it anonymously.

2 - Any suggestions on how the site can be expanded? Ie; new features that people might like. I'm definitely looking for things I can program.

3 - I have very little traffic at the moment, but that should start changing in the next few days as I link to AdviceGeek from my other sites. Would you be interested in advertising on the site? In lieu of money, I'd be happy to post banner ads (particularly verticle or square ones) in exchange for links back to my site. Ie; paying for advertising with traffic instead of money.

4 - I'm also open to any other thoughts, suggestions, flames, etc. you may have. In years to come I'd like AdviceGeek to become THE place for sex and relationship advice. But for the moment I'm happy to hear whatever thoughts people have.

    Thanks!

    --Aaron Lawrence

PS, Sorry I can't link directly to AdviceGeek. GWW requires people post a certain number of posts before they can link to outside websites. An anti-spam measure, I assume. It's "www dot advicegeek dot com" though.

Sounds interesting, but when I went to the site, clicked on a few of those questions, to see the answers I get a blank page. Am using Firefox 2.0 something... :morning:

    and always into link trades.

Ack! I'll go fix it immediately. I uploaded a patch about 30 minutes ago and obviously screwed up something important.

Update: Fixed. Took me 60 seconds to fix a careless programming error. Thanks for pointing it out.

you have a title on this page
    http://www.advicegeek.com/topics.php?topic=foreskin
that simply says "What is" that should say "What is docking?"

That's an odd little bug. It works fine on my development server (hence why I didn't catch it), but it doesn't like it on my live server. The problem seems to be the quotation marks surrounding the word "docking". For some reason my live server doesn't like them and truncates the question at the quotation mark.

Will look into this further, although it'll probably be tomorrow before I can fix it. Since the correct question is in the mysql record and since it works fine on my development server, I'm guessing it may be a server setting somewhere or a piece of software that needs to be updated. My lover knows more about this stuff than I do so I'll get his help manana.

    Thanks for pointing it out.

One observation about something I noticed about some of the visitors asking for advice...

I know this is just an advice site at the moment. But I would restrict giving sex advice to adults only... especially if your linking to it from other porn sites. And it probably isn't wise to link to your new site from an adult webmaster board if you are allowing minors to submit questions.

And I know this is nit-picky but some of your advice is just plain wrong.

The penis is mostly cartilage. Like the fleshy part of your ears. Bodybuilding grows muscle mass and lowers bodyfat. The dick is neither. So just as a bodybuilder's ears don't change, neither does his dick. Similarly, if you go on a Haagen-Dazs binge and gain 200lbs, you'll find that neither your ears or dick gain any weight. It's not a place on the body that has either muscle or bodyfat.
    A penis contains no cartilage.

Btw, I don't need any advice at the moment but I'm having great fun adding my comments. Lol, unfortunately I don't agree with a lot of your advice.

A-ha! I wondered who was writing all the comments.

And don't worry about disagreeing with me. A lot of what I write, especially the relationship advice, is very subjective in nature. Some though, you're right, is very technical (such as "what is a penis made out of") and I got that cartilage answer wrong (will fix it tomorrow).

I encourage you to write comments blasting away at me if you think I botched an answer. I'm not omiscient so I do get things wrong, or at least miss alternative valid perspectives.

In the future I hope to have more columnists on there responding to advice questions. I think that'll go a long way toward improving the quality of the advice. (Ie; a doctor for medical questions rather than me looking up medical answers).

Hehe, no problems here. I really enjoy the site and think it will be very successful. You may see a lot of comments about one particular subject that I know quite a bit about. If you have any doubts about my advice, please feel free to contact me.

Btw, I see a lot of upsell opportunities for your site. At some point you may want to add links to adult stores, hook-up sites (with affiliate programs) and even paysites in appropriate topics. It is a thin-line you'd be walking and certainly wouldn't want to come across too spammy or else your visitors may lose trust. Again, I'd keep the topics and comments restricted to adults only.

Lol, sorry. I didn't notice that you were gaygeek.com! Here I'm giving advice like you're some newbie.

Btw, we would like a re-review sometime soon. We are in the process of moving our content to a CMS and would like another look at the site.

Back to the topic now. :offtopic:

Yes, remember you used to sell it at Tapelenders.

    I remember seeing it.

Oh those were the days... i was renting vhs movies on my own dime just to see if I can even start a movie review website, while Pickles was running the counter at Austin's favorite G&L clothing/video rental shoppe.
