    Flash encoding question

I've been discussing with someone about the possibility of encoding Flash files using the H.264 codec for significantly improved quality at the same bitrate.

What I'm not clear on is whether, by using h.264 Flash in a tour, I will decrease the number of people who can see the video, and also, what product out there will encode Flash using the H.264 codec. It looks like Sorenson only offers Sorenson Spark or On2 as codecs.

Any help from any of you video gurus?

Chip Quicktime Pro and Divx are probably the most common H.264 apps out there and your audience will understand and use the Quicktime embeded browser player

Dink Flamingo just made the switch to the widescreen H.264 Quicktime previews.

Yes people with P3's older than 2003 have some problem with H.264 (mostly in WMP) but any machine over 1.2ghz should not have a problem playing them and Quicktime is better than WMV anyway!

    As for encoders
    Sorenson Squeeze 4.1
    MainConcept H.264/AVC SDK
    Nero Digital (my fav)
Quicktime Pro and for producers of course
Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro (everyone I know in this biz uses Mac's for encoding and Final Cut Pro)

    High end Windows solution Vanguard
I am sure you will get more responses!

    You are talking Flash (sorry)
Chip How about Adobe Premiere Pro or the free Super
As for playback any p4 1ghz or above PC should not have a problem (I think I said that)

Appreciate the help, but I'm specifically looking to encode for embedded Flash using the H.264 codec. Premiere Pro, near as I can tell, does not have an H.264 codec for Flash. I already encode Flash using the Spark or On2 codecs built into Sorenson, and those work nicely, and I also have a native H.264 codec for Quicktime built into Sorenson, but the H.264 standard is a far more advanced codec, and I'm told that there is a way to encode Flash using H.264.

What I'm specifically trying to determine is whether a standard Flash player will be able to play back an .flv encoded with H.264. I'm not concerned about the playing computer's specs, since practically any computer can play Flash provided the bitrate of the video stream is lower than the download rate. It's specifically a codec and player compatibilty issue I'm trying to get resolved.

Flash Player 9, Update 3 will play that.

Premiere Pro CS3. It even has presets to encode H.264 for the tube sites like youtube etc...
