Poll: How Long Before Your First Sale?

If you have ever created a gay website (blog, TGP, etc.) where your main source of income was from promoting sponsors as an affiliate, how much time passed between the launch of your site and the first dollar you made?

I thought about including original content sites in this poll but thought the two would have very different time frames. I imagine you can make a buck faster promoting other sites than starting one with original content. Someone else can create a poll that relates just to original content sites if you like.

I thought the results of this poll might help newbies (like me!) get a sense of how long it might take to see that first check.

Feel free to elaborate on your answer!

(Oh, and if you haven't made any money yet, come back and complete the poll when you have!)

    Hi

it surely depends on whatcha doin'. If you do not promote it at all it just takes longer.. if you do SEO its less time. If you submit to freesites, linklists, directories it takes just a few days or maybe hours depending on when those sites add your link to the database.

i'm with DEVELISH here. different methods of promotion take different amounts of time to get going. but also experience counts. i've talked to tgp owners recently who have had their sites up for months without a single sale, and gallery makers who can't seem to make sales, either. yet i've never posted a gallery without making any sales, and it takes between hours and a day.

usually i post both free and avs sites on link lists, so the first sale usually comes within a day. Squirt, what kinda site are you referring to?

I remember launching my first traffic site a few years back and I had a couple sales on the first night.

I think that if you take a little time to figure out what to do before you start, you'll be pretty lucky pretty fast.

    To clarify...

Thanks guys, I see your point. Someone who launches a site and does ZERO promotion or SEO will probably have much different results than someone who does a lot.

When I posted this poll I intended for it to relate to someone who just launched their first gay porn related website and did not do any paid promotion (which I think is what the majority of people do). They only did promo and SEO tricks that didn't cost anything (i.e.: working on keywords, metadata, SEO, link trades, etc.)

If that situation under those condidtions applied to you, how long did it take before you saw your first dollar?

(And I apologize, but in the title of this poll I used the word "sale" which probably relates more to an original content site. What I meant was for this poll to relate to affiliate sites where you promote others with original content, again, because I think that's how the majority of people get into this biz.)

What does first gay related porn site mean? Paysite? Blog? AEN site?

Your question is very vague. There are some tgpers that submit galleries and NEVER make sales as their template sucks. Others can create one today and make 5 sales within a few hours of submitting.

I wouldn't say that MOST use paid advertising.

I just installed WordPress on a hyphen .org domain two weeks ago. Wrote two posts and did nothing else. Already made 3 sales just from surfers searching my keywords.

Hard to say what you will get unless you give a little more info.

actually the answers you've already been given seem to still apply. avs sites, free sites, blogs, link lists and galleries are all methods that gay porn affiliates use to generate traffic to make sales.

it usually takes me a day to make a sale through those unpaid methods - sometimes a couple days, depending.
