Why doesn't mainstream have an AEBN type site?

This bugs the crap out of me. I want to watch movies online, streaming. I don't want to go rent it from the store, I don't want to sign up to netflix and be forced to take a movie in the mail. I just want to get online, sign in to a site, and stream any movie I want, fast and legally. I try to do some of the 'other' sites now, and its just a pain, they are slow, takes forever, shitty quality. I would pay for this service, why are they so far behind on getting it!

Or does it exist, and I just don't know about it? And Itunes sucks for movies IMHO

    Netflix now allows movie streaming.

So does iTunes (although you may need an Apple TV for that).

Same with OnDemand if you have Digital Cable.

I don't think Blueray should be hauling out the party favours just yet... I'm thinking that hard goods won't be around for long enough for everyone to switch over.

netflix started streaming videos not long ago. they're up to 7000 and growing. and they're very handy when you don't feel like going anywhere.

You don't need Apple TV. You can watch videos on your monitor or on your iPhone (and I assume your video iPod).

    Ummmm...

Did you know that Xbox360 Live is #2 behind Itunes for digital delivery. You can download many movies in high def? There are rumors that the Netflix library may come to Xbox Live.

    Don't forget bittorrent - http://www.bittorrent.com/nowplaying?csrc=splash
I think rentals are 3.99 or something like that.

Then there is Netflix and Amazon's solution.

I BELIEVE one of the reasons it hasn't taken off as much as most cable companies now offer movies on demand and to many that is the easiest way.

The new Apple TV is really cool however.

I rent movies on my Apple TV. I just go to the store using the interface on the screen, choose the movie and after about 20 seconds, the movie starts to play. You've got a month once you download the movie to watch it and once you start to play it, you've got 24 hours to watch it and rewind, pause.. whatever..

    Very cool.

Honestly, DVDs aren't going to last long with technology like that. I don't need to bother with hard goods that just take up room and collect dust.

I read in the NYtimes some months back that if netflix were to stream just one percent of their hard copy rentals in terms of volume the total capacity of the internet would need to increase 10 fold! There are already major capacity issues with the internet and many experts don't even known if it's fixable in the short term.

I belong to Netflix but have not tried their streaming option yet. But I looked at the titles avaliable and there are a lot, including lots of gay interest films and old TV shows (I plan to watch the first few seasons of The Ofiice (Us version) to get caught up. I wish they'd add Queer as Folk.

I subscribed to them for their streaming option, only to cancel before even watching one film. They only work with internet explorer, and their selection was shit. Too bad mainstream cannot keep up with the porn industry in this regards, as if there was a selection, I would be all over it.

For now, the only option seems to be to stick with the stolen content, which sucks balls, and I think this will hurt the movie industry in the end. Where is the phone number for a movie executive when I need it?

they do only work with ie, but they're adding new selections every day. at the rate they're growing, they'll have a huge selection within the year, and they're certainly ahead of the competition.

and there are some issues - some movies and shows don't want to be licensed for viewing on the internet as they feel it will hurt DVD sales - which it probably will. also there are issues with the music or brands - they didn't license them for internet use, so some movies and shows can't be broadcast via internet, but that will be an issue for those videos/shows regardless of who wants to show them online.
