    Domain Name Registrar Questions

    Hollar,

I just registered my first domain name today!! Woo!

But I do have a question or six for you all ...

Which registrar do you use, how long do you register for, how much does it

cost, and do you park them? I used godaddy.

Any info would be wicked appreciated from you webmasters. It's a bit \

    confusing at first!

    Much love,

    Duggy

    Definitely get "auto renew"

Get the domain for as many years as you can afford -- 5 is good, 10 year registration is better.

    Lock your domains

    Don't falsify information

    Stick with one registrar

I prefer Enom as I LOVE the DNS that they offer and love not getting a million upsells, junk mail (physical), and all the other godaddy crap. Find a good Enom reseller and you can get $10 domain names at imho is the best registrar.

I am on the process of bringing in my 1000+ domains from godaddy and Directnic into Enom. Each month when they come up for renewal, they get transfered.

The only caveat I would give about Enom resellers is... Registerfly.

Registerfly was for a number of years a large (maybe the largest) Enom reseller. Turned out to be total crooks, according to current lawsuits and ICANN actions. A lot of people lost domains when Registerfly took their money but never processed the renewals with Enom.

Some Enom resellers actually have Enom accept the payments and process the registrations and renewals, and those are, in my book, the safest bets.

The option we chose, which you can do if you have a decent sized portfolio of domain names, is to get a reseller account. You have to buy, I think, 100 1 year registrations in advance (which is about $950) but then you can buy blocks of renewals as long as you buy $100 minimum at a time.

I've been with Enom since 2001. Love them. Everything Lloyd said, plus you can get real people on the phone, very solid reliability, and they are a registrar for practically every domain, including the most obscure TLDs you've never heard of.

How come every thread involving Duggy ends up talking about body parts?

every single domain theft where i knew the owner personally personally - including a few very recent ones - were done through either netsol or godaddy, and the more recent ones were all godaddy. and godaddy's spam is just too annoying!
