Do you ever worry about 'boy" sites?

I was going to sign up to promote some well-known twink sites and after reviewing the content was quite surprised at how young some of these guys look. I know these models are at least 18, but boy, do some of them look like, well, boys.

Do any of you ever get concerned about promoting sites like this because you might be accused of being a *********?

One reason I'm asking is because of this article that says the FBI is raiding homes of anyone who they think might be into kiddie porn:

Just to be clear (in case any Feds read this forum!), I have no interest in kiddie porn and all of the photos and videos on my hard drives are of guys 18 or older. But having pics on my computer of guys who look younger than 18 is starting to make me wonder if its worth the potential hassle.

What do the rest of you think?

You know, im actually not all that bothered about the FBI using these types of tactics, i know im not the only person on GWW that wouldnt think of clicking on a link if it had alledged CP on it, there is no reason for me or anyone else to actually click on such a link.

Anyone that is foolish enough to do so and risk having CP put on their machine, intentionally, knows the risks they are taking.

On the subject of 'boy' sites, i try to stay away from promoting sites that have the word 'boy' in them for the same reason you do, it just doesnt sit well with me, even if the models are over 18, a lot of them look like they are 15+ on those types of sites, especially the ones from the Eastern block countries and i just dont want to have to deal with any crap.

We try to steer clear of promoting any sites that feature very young looking guys. In fact we recently removed the words "twink", "boy", & "teen" from all site titles and descriptions. We're now working on removing the word "young".

Some really popular sites have those terms in their titles which has made it a bit challenging. Thanks a lot Google!

My site DeansBoys.com has the word boy in it, but all of the models look in their early 20's. I think the word boy CAN be fine, I was going for the use more of how you would say "boys night out", not something to imply some kind of twisted shit you see on the net.

some tgps won't allow you to use a description or domain with the word "boy" in it, regardless of qualifiers.

A company I worked for in the past got very scared of the FBI when they were doing those searches. We had a customer get his shipment of DVDs confiscated because the guys looked young and he was apparently put on some kind of list, even though the models didn't look that young. We stopped using the word boy, which I think is dumb. I mean, str8 people use the word girl and no one immediately thinks of Kiddie, but when you use the word boy it sounds extra perverse. It's wrong. I get nerves around TGPs that have boy in the title, but it's pretty easy to tell if it's CP or not.

The word "boy" has been demonized by the homophobic culture that we live in yet, Girls Gone Wild is not a problem...why?? Because it is used in a straight content. Why are we letting a homophobic environmnet tell us how we can speak?

The term BOY has always been used in the gay culture and it has nothing to do with a child. I know 40 somethings who refer to each other as boys.

A few months ago Google advised me that having the words "twink" & "boy" will get your AdWords campaigns suspended.

Jumping through hoops, we changed some of the terms to "young men". That too was rejected.

They told me that any reference to "boy" or "young" would qualify as "teen porn concepts".

They proceeded to give me a list of unacceptable terms:

barely legal porn
cheerleader sex
Lolita porn
school girl porn
school boy porn
teen photographs
teen porn
teen sex
teen xxx
twinks
young girls
young boys

Of course some of those terms are pretty obvious, but "young men" isn't even on the list they gave me & they still rejected it.

What's worse, not only did they suspend the ad in question, but every Ad Group under that campaign.

We finally cleared it up after some creative rewording. This was frustrating as hell!

These are some interesting comments because I was also going to ask for opinions on using the word "boy" in a URL. At first I assumed that if Just Us Boys does it (not to mention College Boys Live and many other big sites) then I could do it also, not because I'm into really young guys but because the word "boy" might attract more traffic.

But based on what I'm reading here I may have to re-think that idea.

And Lee, your comment about some of those Euro twink sites is exactly what I was referring to. There are some pretty established sites out there with some VERY young looking guys on them. The sites claim they have age records that prove they're over 18, and they use CCBill for billing* so I would assume these are safe to promote, but some of them sure do make me uneasy so I probably won't.

* Is that a wrong assumption, to think that because CCBill does a sites billing that the site is 100% legal? Couldn't they be held libel for being involved with CP?

An important thing I left out of my previous post is that it wasn't my key words that were in question but the content of the landing page. They basically told me I could not use those words on my site if I wanted to send AdWords traffic to it. Wasn't sure if that was clear...

i'd say that if a guy doesn't look old enough to you, you shouldn't be marketing the site he's on. keep in mind that the folks at ccbill have to go by their opinion, just like the rest of us.

and by the way, i've had several ppc search engines turn down my ads because of the word girl, too, regardless of the context, like college girls or 21 year old girls.

its sad that its come to this, like others have said "Girl" isnt demonised. if you listen to many popular songs in the top 40 you hear references to doing that girl or being with that boy.. does this mean the famous singers are talking about kids? no yet on the internet it seems to be taken this way.

We've occasionally had people ask us about the content on Boyfunk, since some of our guys appear to be pretty young looking, but because we are a US-based company shooting all US (and, when we visit Canada, Canadian) models, and we don't rely on outside content providers, I think that helps people feel more comfortable.

However, AJ and I both feel that in the long run, moving away from the younger looking guys is both a smart business decision and one that is less likely to draw attention, and we've been slowly moving in that direction.

I do think that some judgement is appropriate; I remember Max bitching about his tour being rejected by ccbill, but the language he was using, combined with the images he selected to go with, the end result looked so damn close to CP that I could totally understand why CCBill wasn't comfortable processing for it. That's why "Dean's Boys" is a perfectly reasonable use of "boy" while "youngestboysonline.com" might not be.

At the end of the day, it always comes down to a judgement call. I think if you have any questions about the sponsor, or where the sponsor is getting content, you're wise to choose a different sponsor.
