I'm new: where are all the women?

    Hi folks!

I just joined on Buck Angel's recommendation and am posting to introduce myself. I am here to network for the purposes of:

    a) starting my own queer femme paysite

    and

    b) promoting my webmaster's software (check out my sig if you're interested webcams)

I searched "women", "lesbian", and "dyke" looking for info on content, all to minimal if irrelevant results. I would really love to connect with other women webmasters, especially those who are actually queer, gay, lesbian, dyke, whathaveyou. So please, when you have a moment, point yourselves out to me. I am looking forward to learning about your work.

Also, I just got back from the feminist porn awards in Toronto and was introduced to some inspiring content there. To add to one of the only relevant threads I found on here titled "Lesbian Porn" (which, granted, is a year old), please do yourselves a favor and check out "gooddykeporn". This isn't my work and I am in no way connected to this site but it is authentic and it is HOT!

Also, to add one more comment to that year old thread: I am a dyke and I totally go down on dildos & strap ons. It takes all kinds.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Best,
    Ruby

I'm more in the strapon business than the porn business, but if you have a market for feeldoes and harnesses, then I can help you make money. Actually if you have a market for any sexual stimulation devices, then I've got the gear and the programs. Yes it rocks hard being me.

you're starting a queer femme paysite? thank goodness! bec (also from this board) and i originally got to know each other because we were both annoyed at the very few decent options out there for women.

are you going to offer an affiliate program, i hope?

Hi Ruby, and welcome to GWW. There are a few lesbians running amok on the gay side of the industry that post here, but most of us are promoting or working with gay/male sites. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your site, and like Basschick, would love to hear that you'll have an affiliate program available.

    Thanks barnkin!

JamesXR, thanks for the info; I will certainly keep it in mind as the site comes together.

basschick & Bec, thank you for your replies; how lovely to meet you! Are we really this few here? And thanks too for your encouragement, I am pretty excited myself.

An affiliate program is a long way off (I am still researching my business model!!) but something tells me that you will be the first to hear about it once it is launched I've got quite a lot of work ahead of me and only my spare time to do it but a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, right?

Incidentally, what do the both of you do? What are your specialties?

Thanks again everyone for introducing yourselves

    Best,
    Ruby

i don't really have a speciality - i write paysite reviews and other text for clients and myself, encode video for clients and myself, shoot videos for my site, work as paysite consultant, work on the sites in my traffic network.

bec is pretty diverse, too - she's done design, writing, worked on traffic hubs, worked with paysite owners. some in this industry specialize, but most webmasters branch out over time.

we hope to hear more about this project and can answer most questions you might have. this is a pretty knowledgeable board

It would be very interesting to see more of the lesbian adult industry coalesce here. It's good to see you folks coming here.

    oh jeeze!

I guess I stopped getting the updates to my in box, didn't realize so many of you had replied. Thanks for the encouragement folks!

So my first newbie questions is: where are the best places to register domain names? Does it matter? Is there anything else to consider here? And if someone has picked up a name I want but is doing nothing with it ... how do I get my hands on it?

My second newbie question is: I see a lot of other newbies get the advice of starting a blog before launching a pay site to generate traffic. And wordpress over and over is the recommended software. What should the content of the blog be? How the site build is going? A sex life journal? Random info about my niche gathered from the internet? I guess this is a huge question and given my target audience it might not be an easy one to reply to but I appreciate any thoughts.

    Many, many thanks!,
    Ruby

hard to answer your questions without some answers:

first off, where will your content come from for a paysite?

do you have any kind of budget set up yet?

any blog you create should relate specifically to topics that will be able to send traffic to your paysite. wordpress is free, but there are other really good blog programs out there, too. marketing other lesbian sites - crappy though most of them are - would give you some marketing experience.

making a paysite it easier than you think - much. but most lesbian content out there is mostly str8 and bi chicks watching the camera and faking it. money definitely helps here - if you have money for a quality designer plus whatever you need for content, video encoding, a cms, etc, the rest falls into place rather easily.

    Woman here, checking in.

Real lesbian porn is definitely like an almost-invisible entity in this industry, probably because the staged stuff overshadows it. Good luck!
