Are you familiar with this twink sponsor?

    "Bucks Matrix"

They run a bunch of twink related sites like BadBoysHouse, BoysFever, BoysDogging*, etc.

Just wondering if anyone here promotes them and if so, what do you think of them? They seem to use mostly Czech models who look very young, so a red flag goes off for me when I see sites like these. I'm probably paranoid but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here if anyone knows about them.

    * And whats up with the term "dogging"? That's a new one on me. I must be getting old. :crybaby:

whether other people are promoting a site or not, if you feel the models do not look legal, imo you should absolutely not promote that site. after all, other people can be wrong, and then there's the question of whether they are as careful as you would be.

dogging is a uk term involving sex in public places with people watching. as i understand it, there's a dogging community.

Let me clarify: it's not so much that I think the models at Buck Matrix are underage... they seem to have all the standard disclaimers everyone else has so I suppose I'd be inclined to give them the benefit of doubt that they're legit, just like I have with some of the more well known sponsors I have signed up with. I mean, there are guys at Sean Cody, Broke Straight Boys, Fratmen, etc. who look kind of young but if I only relied on my own opinion on how old a guy is I couldn't be in this biz.

However... my observation from reading these boards has been that other webmasters are usually willing to give the lowdown on sponsors to be avoided so I was wondering if Buck Matrix falls within that category.

Or if anyone is promoting them, how have their sites been doing for you?

Standard disclaimers should not cancel out doubts you may have. Remember, Cobra and Justin Berry had all the standard disclaimers too. One hotlinked line of text at the bottom of a website doesn't prove anything.
I post here to whore this sig.

It's always a judgement call. Boyfunk.com has some models that look young, but we (Gaybucks) shoot all of our content ourselves, and we take extra steps, such as verifying IDs (looking for fakes) using the same book that bars and banks use, and we're known in the community, which gives affiliates a certain degree of comfort in working with us

That isn't to say that you need to meet any sponsor you promote, or that new sponsors shouldn't be given a chance... only that if it's an unknown sponsor with content that looks questionable, particularly if it's Eastern European, you may want to be cautious.

    Hope that helps!

a standard disclaimer wouldn't remove any doubts for me - in fact, i NEVER give anyone the benefit of the doubt in this area. if a model looks questionable, i move on - there are TONS of sites out there to promote and there have been enough cases where models turned out not to be 18 on sites with a disclaimer...

Matt and Basschick: repeating my point, there are guys on the major sites like Sean Cody, Fratmen, etc. who look like they could be under 18. I can send links to them if you want and could probably find examples at the top 10 most popular gay sites. All these sites have the same 2257 statement as Buck Matrix and probably the other sites mentioned that got in trouble for underage models. So what criteria do you use to determine if a model is over 18 if you're saying I can't rely on the 2257 statements?

Or are you saying that you only promote bear sites or "MenOver30.com"... sites where you know without a doubt that the models are of age?

A 2257 statement is pretty meaningless. As has already been stated, Justin Berry's sites all had 2257 statements on them, Bryan Kocis' site had 2257 statements on it, and even after he had plenty of reason to know he had an underage model, he STILL denied there was any problem... and I GUARANTEE that some of the eastern european sites are not doing everything required to comply with 2257. I've also seen IDs from some of these sites that looked like they'd been doctored, so even seeing IDs isn't a guarantee.

This issue has come up many times before and many people have weighed in on it. In short, there's nothing that one can do other than rely on the reputation of the sponsor and common sense. If the sponsor is large, well known, and well regarded, it's less likely they are going to jeopardize their business by promoting underage models, because the risks are simply too high. If the sponsor sounds "fishy" or the content looks questionable to the point where you don't feel comfortable promoting it, don't.

Thanks Chip... that's the first response to my question that makes sense. If 2257 is meaningless then webmasters must be using some criteria to decide who to promote. As you said, it must be reputation.

I now realize I should have re-phrased my original question to:

Does anyone know anything about the reputation Buck Matrix has?

But so far it seems no one does so that might not be a good sign.

I think I'll stay away from them for now. If you veterans have never heard of them that can't be good.
