Gallery 2 is a free program that can be used with WP that lets you do batch uploads and image management. It wasn't quite right for me but I think a lot of others use it.
v2.5 has an added gallery function

For some reason the new WP 2.5 gallery uploader does not work for me in either IE7 or Firefox. I did some research on the WP forums and several people are having the same problem so if yours works consider yourself lucky!
i have several wordpress installs and so far no such problem
i noticed 2.5.1 says there's an uploader fix though
I had this problem when I first upgraded to 2.5. Researched it and discovered I had only uploaded the wp- directories and forgot to upload the new php files in my root blog directory. As soon as I did that the image upload problems disappeared.Originally Posted by sc32803
I installed WP through the automatic installers provided by my web host. But thanks for the tips, that should help me solve this!
I use 2.5 and I just upload them to the image folder via FTP. No muss no fuss. (I can't believe I said "no muss no fuss.)
When posting and using FTP as an upload option am I able to create subdirectories that WP actually "sees" and am I able to browse the directories and selecting all the images I want to have in my post?

haven't done ftp uploading
just selecting all the files i want and then the uploader does the rest
then a button shows up on the bottom that says Add gallery or Insert Gallery, can't remember which now
you click it and adds a [gallery] tag in your post
