Actor Tony Randall Dead At 84

(AP) Tony Randall, the comic actor best known for playing fastidious photographer Felix Unger on "The Odd Couple," has died. He was 84.

Randall died in his sleep Monday night at NYU Medical Center of complications from a long illness, according to his publicity firm, Springer Associates. The actor developed pneumonia after undergoing heart bypass surgery in December.

He is survived by his wife, Heather Harlan Randall, who made him a father for the first time at age 77, and their two children, 7-year-old Julia Laurette and 5-year-old Jefferson Salvini.

You know, I was a big fan. I grew up with the Odd Couple. And I really loved his show Love, Sydney in the 80's, where he played a gay man who opens his home to a single mother and her daughter. The character he played was openly gay in the TV movie, and his sexuality was only implied on the actual sit-com, but was still a positive gay role model. He will be missed.

Really? Wow, I'm shocked. I thought everyone knew who Richard Simmons was. He was a fitness guru, very popular in the 80's for his tv workout show. He was white but had an afro and was very femme.

Funny thing is, I saw an interview with the woman who plays Mimi on the Drew Carey show (I can't remember her real name), she was on Rosie O'Donnell. She was talking about seeing Richard out at a party and that he was very enamoured with this male friend of hers. Rosie was very insistant that he was just excited about meeting Mimi and not her male friend. Mimi totally didn't get it until Rosie had to wink wink and really push the point home. It was very obvious that she was covering for him. I think they're friends. This was before Rosie's coming out.
