    Comcast and Cave Creek

Are webmasters who use Cave Creek as their host aware their company has, at least twice I know of, had their network connection with Comcast shut off? It actually is shut off right now. We noticed it about 15 minutes ago when one of my employees who works at home using a Comcast connection could no longer load our sites including 'cruisingforsex.com'. We'd had this happen maybe 2 months ago and in the end it was restored after several hours. An explanation was never offered by Cave Creek as to why this critical link to the Internet would suddenly shut off access to Cave Creek servers.

We just spoke with Cave Creek tech support and they acknowledged Comcast had once again shut their link to their customers, impacting ALL their sites including their own which would presumably include CCBill which many of you use. This is what tech support told my staffer:

"Well, the tech I spoke with just called back to confirm that yes Comcast has once again cut off access to Cave Creek hosted sites. He urged me to call them. Indicated they are trying to contact Comcast and determine why and if it can be fixed but said Comcast isn't under any obligation to speak to them. Not exactly reassuring. I mentioned the potential impact on traffic and that this will be a big deal to a lot of clients if not resolved soon."

I have no idea if this could be one of the reasons this is happening, but about a month ago or so I read about where Comcast and some of the other big name broadband providers were going to start capping downloads to a certain amount of data a month. Their argument was that it is getting very expensive in the amount of bandwidth being used on today's internet with the very large video files.

Whether or not this has actually started is one thing..but even if it hasn't, it's something to be very concerned about possibly comming down the road.

There is much talk about caps for individual customers. Sprint, provider for my wireless card, is implementing a cap later this year and if you reach it, you start paying a higher price. This is not the problem with Cave Creek, as the issue impacting their network is much more serious. It impacts EVERY company who either hosts on their network or relies on CCBill for billing. Comcast claims to be the second largest ISP in the USA so this could be a big impact on our bottom lines.
