Mistakes Most Newbies Make?

What would you say the top 5 or so mistakes most new webmasters make are?

For me i would say it goes something like this...

1) Not treating porn like a business
2) Using 'public domain' content
3) Copying others work
4) Trying to do everything at once
5) Not listening to others when they have advice to give

Would you folks say that was a good list to start out with? Is there anything you folks think should be added or removed from the list?

I would add:

6. Not having enough capital to make it through the first 6 to 12 months without any profits
7. Expecting large and immediate profits
8. Expecting large profit without long hours

I just saw a bunch of avs sites loaded with unlicensed random pics. The people who built these groups of sites linking to eachother are obviously experienced.
Are you sure that's a nube error?

Making gorgeous/huge sites without a clue how to get traffic to them.

and I would add:

9. too many think it (adult web-mastering) is a popularity contest.
10. oh-too many do not live up to the title web ""master""---most do not know HTML!
11. too many enter thinking they are already owed---too many webmasters think sponsors owe them, or would be nowhere without them.

Thinking they can do it all.

A good, solid site isn't done by people who aren't highly trained in what they're doing.

you have to have people who know marketing, design, server issues, content production and you need a really good talent scout.

You have to have a team. One or two people just can't do it. I've seen so many idiots on sites like Just Us Boys say "I'm going to launch my own site and show them how it's done" without having any real grasp of what's involved in running an adult company.

Even people who SHOULD know better (like say.. former Fratpad models) but attempt to launch their own sites realize very quickly that no matter how easy the big guys make it, look.. it's not.

- Not having a concept.

We've all seen straight guys have gay for pay sex. There are already three HUGE sites that pretty much have that market cornered. We've all seen hot hot hot men in solo action. There are already three sites that pretty much have that covered. We've all seen guys playing silly gay sex games like Jack-Off races and "Gay chicken" and between Fratpad and Straight Farternity, we've got that covered too. Come up with something new or give it up now.

- Not sticking to your concept.

I saw a site which claimed to be nothing but straight guys who surf down on the beach but taking a look at it, it was just a bunch of gay porn stars posing with a surf board in their hands. Nobody would be fooled by that at all.. the guys didn't even look like surfers.

I remember a gay site from a straight company called "Twinks Pounded" and none of the guys were twinks and none of the sex was very forceful. Like.. huh?

I saw a site claiming to be all Military Guys but half of them had hair that was too long, wearing uniforms that were mismatched and obviously just something that they picked up at the local army surplus.

Sites that feature "Southern Boys" and although some of them may have been from the south, they didn't talk in the videos so you didn't get an accent... which is kinda the whole point of the fetish... They weren't doing anything different from sex on every other Sean Cody wanna be site. Duh.

- Not thinking like a customer.

We've all seen this one. The site isn't organized well, is ugly, loads slowly, hard to navigate and fucks with the surfer. Who's going to join a site like that?

It's no different than anyone getting into any business.. they think it's cheaper than it really is all see nothing but dollar signs. They think about how easy it will be to make all of that money even though they have no knowledge of web development, search engine optimization, traffic management, content management, copyright & legal procedures, etc. So my bunched up addition to this list of mistakes would be... Lack of Knowledge!

Badly designed website! I've seen some really ugly sites with bad blinking graphics.
