Check It Out What Do You Think Our Target Audience Is For Porn?

Not justy specifically 'males' but what about other demographics that most other businesses already know?

For example, what age group do you think the people who buy online porn, or online gay porn are, do you think college aged guys are more likely to buy porn than retirees?

What about those who work, do you think that full-time employed individuals are more likely to buy porn than someone working part-time, or someone that doesnt have a job at all?

What about a surfers marital status, are single guys/women more likely to buy a porn site membership than someone who is married or dating someone?

I dont think i have ever seen any statistics relating to the demographics of online porn anywhere, not even in some of the companies i have done marketinng work for.

It seems we are targeting our sites much like throwing a fishing line in to a lake and hoping that where we drop the line is where the fish are.

Have you folks ever collated any information about your surfers by the use of polls or surveys? if so, did you see any trends forming?

Why do you think it is that after almost 15 years of online porn being popular, we still dont really have any reliable demographics of porn surfers like most other business owners do?

    Regards,

    Lee

One of the big gay studios claims the entire market for purchasing gay adult DVD's is no more than 100,000 names.

That number does not include rentals, website memberships or anything else.

The largest selling gay porn DVDs are about 10-12,000 units for an individual title.

That may help give your question some perspective.

Perhaps that is *their* audience (or their customer list since they started business) but there is no way the *entire* market for buying DVDs is only 100,000 im almost certain that number was plucked out of the air because it goes against everything we already think we know about the GLBT population being between 5-10% of the general population.

With over 300,000,000 individuals living in the U.S right now, that roughly puts the GLBT population in the U.S alone between 15,000,000 and 30,000,000.

Thats not even counting closeted men and women in the United States who we all know buy porn and porn memberships on the 'low down'.

Take that 15-30 million and think about how many off your friends regularly spend $40 - $60 for a full priced DVD.

I apologize for getting this thread off topic, but I thought it would give some perspective.

As for doing the kind of polling you're suggesting, yes, it would be very helpful but the usual market research methods won't work. People would lie on their surveys because they're embarrassed about their fetishes. You couldn't do random phone surveys legally, and even if you could, they'd lie on their responses. People wouldn't show up for focus groups. You'd never reach that "hidden demographic" on the DL simply because they're hidden.
