Free Lifetime Memberships Work Well But What About...

Offering a 'paid lifetime membership' to paysites?

Apparently this is something that CCBill are able to do so im wondering why some sponsor hasnt already tried offering this as a business model?

It seems that surfers want to have non-recurring billing so why not offer them a $250 membership (as a pricing example) to get access to a sites member area for life?

No worries about having to rebill the member, no worries about affiliates losing out (most would go for a 50% cut of $250) and no worries about surfers cancelling then rejoining.

Do you think this is a business model that could work well on porn site memberships if enough sponsors offered it as an option or total business model for their sites?

    Regards,

    Lee

It might possibly work for a few well known sites that have a very long history of pumping out quality content on a regular basis. For newer sites or those that are relatively unknown, I'm not so sure.

To use your example of $250, thats an awful lot of money to ask someone to pay for a porn subscription. I don't think many people who sign up for a recurring subscription really *think* they will stay for more than a month or two and certainly not 10+ months to justify the $250 expense.

A somewhat lower price would obviously be more attractive to the subscriber but could hurt the site over the long term.

    Agreed.

$250 was just the first number i thought of, it could easily be $100-$200 for some sites i would imagine and im pretty sure affiliates would run with making $50-$100 for each sale they made.

Im just brainstorming ideas more than anything with all the talk across industry boards in the past month about site owners having less control over their content and members wanting 'more' for less.

It would seem a logical step to take would be increasing the length and cost of a membership to a site but i agree its something that sites with more of a history would need to take first for it to catch on industry-wide.

I could be wrong, but I was of the impression that the maximum time ccbill would do was a year. Of course, not like somebody can charge back at 16 months if the site goes under, so I dunno, perhaps they've changed.

This is an interesting concept but I'd have to agree that, in the current financial crisis, a lot of money upfront wouldn't be something many would entertain.
