Do You Think McCain Can Still Win The Election?

Its pretty obvious right now that Obama has the popular vote across the country, even having stolen some traditionally 'red' states and turned them 'blue'.

But realistically, could McCain still win by getting more votes from the electoral college?

This is actually something im becoming concerned with, we all know the popular vote means very little when it comes to deciding who the election 'winner' is so, how do we know that right now, the electoral college isnt planning on letting McCain win?

    Regards,

    Lee

If you look at any of the electoral maps, it's pretty clear that Obama is ahead by practically every measure out there.

Even the Republicans are saying that there's no clear strategy for McCain to win, in part because Obama wisely recognized 10 months ago that by pursuing a 50 state strategy (aggressive campaigning in a lot of traditionally Republican states), he could force the Republicans to spend money in places they shouldn't have to, and he could also create multiple strategies for his campaign to win.

I won't believe it till the election is over -- I don't trust Karl Rove and his sleazy, evil piece of shit henchmen to do the most shady, illegal stuff possible, including massive fraud with voting machines and such -- but all we can do is hope and pray and work our asses off to help get everyone out to vote.

    NO!

But then, I didn't think Bush would win in 2000 or 2004!

I couldnt believe he was re-elected in 2004. I thought Kerry was going to win by a landslide.

Anything can happen this election. It's important to push for your candidate all the way through to the election.

I remember being in Australia thinking "They couldn't possibly be stupid enough to elect Bush again." I wont make that mistake again :hipster:

There is very solid scientific evidence pointing to massive voting fraud, most likely from alterations to voting machines, particularly in Ohio, NM, and one or two other states. There was a very evenhanded, well written book by an academic statistician who analyzed all sorts of data, then put his own preliminary findings out for other statisticians (particularly those with opposing political leanings) to evaluate and refute.

It seems highly likely that Bush's 2004 win was actually a loss, and that it was engineered by the Republicans (or at least by Republican operatives)

Team Obama knows this and has already put all sorts of structure in place to try and prevent it, but that, above all else, is what worries me about the upcoming election.

A week in politics is like a year in REAL life. Anything can still happen. The only thing we can do is to continue to work hard as hell to do whatever we can to support Obama and get out the vote.

The more people who vote, the better it is for Obama.

    Actually it isnt

Every single person in the United States could vote for Obama and the Electoral College could still elect McCain.

It's possible, but it gets more and more unlikely every day. Obama's got solid leads in enough states to give him the electoral votes he needs. McCain's way far behind, according to every metric I've seen. There simply aren't enough toss-up states (with enough electoral votes) left for him to make up his vote deficit. Here are some pretty decent electoral vote tracking/simulation sites:

Don't believe what the mainstream media is projecting. They're cherry-picking polls to find the closest margins between the candidates, hoping to perpetuate the notion that the difference is razor thin.

Very true. Makes for good news and keeps people tuned in. Unless some very MAJOR turn of events happens, Obama will be the next president. Wish I could say "thank God", but the truth is I'm not enamored with either candidate but anything is better than a Republican who will spend the next 4years doing the same damn thing that Bush has been doing the last 8. Besides, I'm not sure that McCain's health could hold up to the rigors of the Presidency in which case Palin would become President. HEAVEN HELP US ALL!

The real truth of the matter is I'd hate to be the one who wins. Talk about a challenge. Other than cutting spending and raising taxes I don't see any way out of the current fiscal crisis.

To be honest, people are gullible.

I keep hearing "I wanted to vote for him, but that Ayers thing..."

And then you ask them to explain why it bothers them but they don't know.. they just know it should..

Then you ask them if it bothers them that Sarah Palin was blessed by a Witch Doctor and is married to a terrorist. But no... that's not on their radar.

Now they're harping on the "HE's a SOCIALIST!!"

Not really understanding what that is or even if he is one.

SO yeah... we can still lose this.

most people are SO easy to redirect. most of the republicans i know and a surprising number of democrats like mccain because they feel he's a man of the people. they believe that working class thing he puts on and they think of obama is from the elite class. i've told some of them that mccain's father and grandfather were 4-star admirals, the family had money - oh, yeah, and he married wearlthy. and obama grew up without money. his class isn't from growing up privileged. yet none of the people i've told this to, democrat or republican, believe me till i send them to biography.com or other sites and prove it.

it's amazing how most people believe whatever they hear
