Came across this blog post earlier this morning listing 50 free or trial to try programs designed to speed up your PC and I've been reading and downloading a few goodies ever since. Definately worth taking a look, and all file downloads are off of PCWorld, so you know they're clean.
I have tried sooooo many of them that I can recommend this one as THE ONE that I have found to be the best.

It really works and will not fuckup our PC as a lot of them will do.
The trial is a fully functional version so you can try the entire program out. I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit version and it works great with that.

defragmenting your HDD is another good way if it is VERY fragmented. Also installing RAM is quite all right - but beyond 2GB it is worthless for everyday work if you are not editing large pictures or video files.

I agree with Devilish. I just realized that my main Dell workstaion is about 6 years old! It still runs good but I think I may be asking Santa for a new PC this Christmas.
