Im thinking about buying one for Christmas but dont really know much about them, anything i should consider before getting one of these?
Also, what is a good price for the console itself?

The system itself is perfect for a gamer like myself. I am not into the real crazy violent shooter type games. If you prefer more "casual" games that are a lot more pick up and play, the Wii is for you. The graphics aren't up there with the 360 or PS3, but what the Wii lacks in that area, it makes up for in it's natural ability to play a lot of games. The controller is simple and it allows you to be able to learn most games quickly and aren't going to end up frustrated. The on-line experience is not too great as Nintendo is still all about protecting kids, so it requires codes before you can play with anyone, and voice chat is just getting started now with a new Wii Speak accessory. But the Wii is fun if you have groups of friends over to play as it will get them into gaming in a new and fun way.
I personally like mine, but I'm not a real hardcore gamer so the 360 never appealed to me and the PS3 might eventually. But the Wii was up my alley as it had more of the types of games I play and a new and unique way to experience them!
If you do get a Wii, let me know and we can excange codes and I can send you my Mii (the little avatar that looks like me!).

I got a Wii and a Wii Fit and rarely use them. They were moderately fun for maybe half an hour, then I got bored.
I think gaming is like porn... some people love it and others couldn't care less. If you're not naturally into playing video games I wouldn't recommend buying a Wii or anything else.
A wii is good for small party's, especially if they are not "games" players, its pretty easy to get to grips with literally.. and no matter how crap the basic games are they can turn out to be lots of fun, when playing with non players, they seem to pick this shit up no problem.. the nine pin bowling is a laugh when you all had too much to drink
Overall I would say, for personal use forget it, for a good laugh with say people in mid 20's to early 40's buy it , it's fun !
To me it's not a games console it's a "get together console" ...
And I used to be a hardcore UT player before porn marketing took over my life.... oh and of course Everquest ... shh don't mention that game... If I was even half the expert at marketing porn as I was at those two games then I would not be sat here now typing messages about games consoles to you fucking lot ! LOL

See im wanting to play games like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, etc on it, this sounds like something for more 'basic' games so im thinking now i should probably go with a 360 or PS3.

Some "classic" games to try to track down are Excitetruck, Elebits and a more recent hit Boom Blox. Wii Fit is fun if you can find it and are in need of losing a few pounds. There is also a Williams Pinball compilation for cheap if you like that sort of stuff. And if you like simple games with lots of replay, I recommend Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. It's not a hard game, but there is a ton to do and go back and unlock and collect!

I have a WII also and I agree its great when you have company coming over its an awesome social thing but if u wanna have fun when its just you get an Xbox
