What Is The Standard Resolution On DVDs?

    Is there one?

Right now im using Yasa DVD to Mpeg to do my batch DVD encoding and i have several DVDs being ripped at 720x480, im wondering though how much larger i can make this DVD content in resolution without compromising the quality of the content?

Does anyone know if DVD content has a 'standard' resolution in terms of it actually being able to play on a TV screen?

    Regards,

    Lee

720x480 NTSC (or 720x576 for PAL countries) is the standard DVD resolution. Additionally, they have a bandwidth cap of about 10 mbps.

Anything not in the parameter is non DVD compliant and wouldn't author properly (most authoring tools I've used either warn you or will want to re-compress the video to make it compliant, which can get messy).
