I was wondering what NICHES sell and what ones do not??? Are there any that you would recommend I stay away from?

This advice is starting to sound like a worn out recording ... but it's the best advice/answer for your question: PROMOTE WHAT TURNS YOU ON. If you enjoy it, you can sell it. :donmike:
Bec, that is a very good point that I have honestly never heard anyone say before. Yet, it is so true.
If you aren't into twinks, then your not going to do well with twinks.
For example, many are not into bareback but yet promote bareback, and if you compare one who is into bareback vs. someone who isn't you will be able to tell a difference in sales.
But then yet, I also disagree with you. I will tell you why.
I'm going to use SeanCody.com as an example.
Let's say the niche' I really enjoy is leather bears. but then yet, I take a look at Sean Cody, and their guys turn me on. I'm going to promote Sean Cody.
Which this leads into my 2nd discussion.
When someone is looking for a site to promote, what I suggest is take a look at their tours. If the site "turns you on" promote it. Because if it turns you on, your going to really like that site. Which then because you enjoy it, it's going to show in your work.
I believe firmly that a consumer who visits your site can tell your enthusiasm on a promotion. I believe that.
Just thought I would give my 2 cents.
You didn't disagree with me at all hon ... you named things that turn you on. It doesn't matter that one of them is outside of your usual attraction zone.
i promote lots of things that don't turn me on. that being said, you have to understand the niche well enough to promote it.
btw, Rich - any niche sells if you know how to market it.
I agree with basschick. I promote 100% sites that don't turn me on. It's harder to understand what sells and what does not and you need to invest some time to find out but the big advantage is that you can decide which niche seems to be the most profitable with a certain amount of input , which in most cases is a niche that won't turn you on.

I agree that a good sales person can sell ANYTHING! Sales is a skill that anyone can learn or be trained in. There are a lot of excellent book on learning the skill of selling a product or service. I would recommend going to your local Boarders book store to the business section and buying a couple of books on sells. The more you understand the psychology of selling the better you can do it...trust me on that!
I do think that if you are a webmaster (as I am) creating sites, then it is more to your advantage if you have a "passion" for the niche that you working in. I love Latino twinks and I actually shoot the content, run the site, and market it. I know exactly what my target customer wants to hear and most importantly...wants to SEE.
I can give them exactly what they WANT because it is what I would WANT myself. If it gets my dick hard then I KNOW it will get their dicks hard.
Hence, we have great member loyalty which leads to great retention and rebills.

Yep i also promote lots of sites that dont turn me on and do well with them, straight sites, especially ebony and mature straight sites do very well for us in general.

But any of us promoting something that doesn't turn us on, has learned HOW TO MARKET that niche. For a beginner I still say, go with what you know and like and learn to sell it, and then learn about the other niches and bring them into the mix when you feel you can successfully promote them.
My gay visitors like the older mature Rainbow Rev. guys and they also really like FratmenTV and FratPad guys.
Basically, I hit all the niches. Black gays are hot. Interracial stuff too.
AND let's not forget my GAY BD site. Ah yes, sizzling hot.
And I am not even a gay guy.... HEY, I sell porn...any kind, all kinds.
Girls too. If you own a shoe store, you do not just offer your size. You gotta offer for everyone. So that's what I do. Heavy on the BD...
I guess I just like ALL OF IT. So what does that make me? A gay/hetero/undisclosed sexuality person....
I live for SALES, guys. ANY SALE turns me completely ON.
MONEY...MONEY...MONEY....
I also have mainstream sites. Not only porn. :king:
It comes down to your TRAFFIC. If you have the numbers, you get the sales. Of course, I ONLY show the hottest stuff anybody ever saw, so that helps, but the name of the game is YOUR TRAFFIC. And putting the hot high-paying stuff on the TOP of the pages. Click, click, click and the cash register gets going. Poor traffic, no sales, guys, no matter how much YOU love your niche. Gotta get the visitors in. They like what THEY like, so I offer a large choice for them on every page. I have a ton of gay pages. I treat every page as though it is the only page they are going to hit. That way, the surfer finds something HE likes. He is the buyer, not me. I offer all kinds of shoes in my porn shoe store. You gotta cram stuff in on every page. My experience is the buyers are all over the board. They want what THEY want, not what we think we want. This is the key. Get it ALL up on every page. AND a hot embedded vid on every page near the top. AND DO NOT FORGET BOYZSHOP.....cause I sure do not...Ah, good old Boyzshop. You can bank them.
I think before you worry about niches you should worry about what sponsor to go promote, unless of course you're taking about your own company.
Just my two cents.
That's what I was thinking - we didn't ask Rich any questions - is he thinking about starting a site of his own or deciding what sponsors to promote - I think Bec's advice is particularly relevant if you're going to invest in a site and agree with everyone that armed with some knowledge you can promote almost anything...

If Rich is talking about other sponsors to promote on HIS sites then i would actually say the niche is going to be the deciding factor on which sponsors he uses so niche would seem to be the first choice he has to make in this case.
Choosing a sponsor, without deciding on the niches you are going to promote kind of seems counter-productive, especially if you decide to promote bears for example, and that sponsor doesnt have a bear site $0.02
