On or Off

Okay...It takes me approx. 3 to 3.5 hours to run all of my anit-virus, spam & tune-up software, so I was considering just leaving my PC on at night so all of these things could be set to run while I'm sleeping.

Good or bad idea leaving my PC on?

I leave my computer on 24/7 I never turn it off.

3 hours to run? Damn!

Only takes my laptop about 35 minutes.

That being said, there are times when i will leave my laptop on overnight to enable it to defrag, scandisk, anti-virus, spyware, etc too.

I've always understood that its best to leave the system(s) you use daily powered on all the time. Something about the stress the circuit boards take from cooling off/heating up frequently.

I know I read that somewhere a long long time ago. Or maybe I just pulled that out of my ass :crazy:

Thanks one and all! I use Windows One Care, SuperantiSpyware and Malwarebytesantimalware. My system has 265GB of memory and doing all three one after the other takes about 3 hours.

So leaving my PC on seems to be the way to go.

PS. Of course I'll have to remember to set everything to run after I get finished taking care of, ummmm, business! :smoke:

I have only Macs, but I put the e-mail machine on Sleep overnight.

i also leave my pc on overnight...there used to be a theory that it was better to leave your PC on 24/7 as it 'saved' your hardware from the shutdown/startup wear and tear, but that's been debunked with newer technology that lasts longer these days.
