Yeah Havent Done This In A While... Post A Tip

Figured as it has been a few months since we had a purely 'hints and tips' thread it was about time we did another one :groovy:

So here goes.. post a single hint or tip that you have found to be helpful.

    Here is mine..

When submitting to TGPs + Link Lists make sure you keep a record of not only where you submit to but also how much traffic you get from them back in addition to how many sales you made. That way youll be able to narrow down your list of site submissions to make sure you only submit to places that make you sales

    Regards,

    Lee

No doubt we all surf a buttload of porn sites out there - for reasons both professional and personal

If you've not given multiple browsers a try, get movin!

Mozilla offers several browser platforms that, simply through their use, can make your system more secure and less vulnerable to spyware, adware, malware, popups, gnarly browser tricks and whatever else unscrupulous webmasters are up to these days.

Keep your IE on hand for testing compatibility and using with the sites you really trust, and give Mozilla Firefox a try when checking out those sites you're not quite familiar with, including:
    1. Applicants for TGP partner status
    2. Unfamiliar URLs on your referrer list

As a more marketing, money-oriented tip... try sponsors out! Getting sponsor suggestions on boards and from others is all well and good but don't be afraid to give sites a try that only you know about or you've come across on your own. A million people able to provide feedback on a particular sponsor could mean overexposure. No one having heard of one could mean you'll be at the front of the line in bringing that sponsor to the attention of a great many potential buyers. So long as they have a trusty processor and legit content, go for it! As soon as you sign up for their program, send 'em an email. Say hey. Introduce yourself. Ask for some promotional tools or tips and tricks from them. Gauge their willingnesss to work with you and how quickly they respond to you. If they don't have a huge number of affiliates competing for their attention, they might just fall all over themselves to help you out!
You might have just tapped in to a well overflowing with potential sales - and you're the only one for miles around with a bucket

More for newbies I guess but anyways.

Take the time to do a proper css style sheet and modify the page. It shows when you take time changing things like the fonts and making sure colours match up right. The same content on the same traffic can get more sales with just an esthetic change like that. I personally usually use verdana as the font, I think it looks clean and easy to read.

I also avoid Comic sans sf cause it's been over used since the early days of web design.

always check the galleries and pages you make in 800x600 and 1024x768 - and check in two browsers. this may seem like an obvious tip, but most people i know don't do it!

Actually I never check multiple browsers. Which other one do you use? Firefox?

Let another webmaster have a look at your stuff and get their opinion. I think we often get too comfortable with our own stuff, we know how to navigate our sites. But a fresh pair of eyes can help us sort out stumbling blocks we've put in the buyer's way.

Here is a great tip for newbies!

Treat this as a business. Don't be afraid to invest your money if it will make you more productive or profitable. This includes everything from buying scripts, content, hosting, design, traffic, etc. But make sure you do a cost analysis before investing. For example, if you can save yourself 5 hours a week by purchasing a $100 script and you can put those 5 hours towards earing an extra $25 per week, then you will have paid the script off in less than a month!

Once you get into this mindset, you will be able to look at running your online business as a long-term/full-time reality.

    cheers,
    Luke

    Luke,

This is an excellent tip. I still see far too many webmasters who haven't embraced the new reality of adult webmastering.

Gone are the days when you can make good money on content "borrowed" from newsgroups or stolen from other sites. Free hosts will just steal all of your traffic and your peers won't take you seriously and do recip linking. If everyone is using free link lists, what sets you apart from everyone else?

Running an adult site is not a free ride. You expect people to buy your stuff (or your sponsors) why shouldn't you invest a little in your business? It's an old cliche, but if you want to make money, you need to spend money.

    Cheers
    Michael

Don't be afraid to think outside the box. Sure, you can make money by doing what everyone else is doing, but could you make more if you came up with something that no one else was doing? The worst that can happen is your new idea fails, but as Samuel Beckett once said: "Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better."

Go to the really big websites, the leaders in the industry, and don't be complacent to say, "I can do that.", when what you need to say is, "I can do that better." I'm sure you've thought to yourself, "Man, why did they do that?" or "Why didn't they do that this way." There is always room for improvement and new ideas. Just because one way works, doesn't mean there isn't another way that works just as good if not better.

Best of luck to all of you

    Michael

My favorite tip and one I use EVERY day almost all day long:

Image Ready (IR)is bundled with PhotoShop and does almost everything PhotoShop does but takes less system resources. Beyond that, you can manke animated banners in IR and what I love best, it has a great utility to slice images and creat the html for it. You can combine/delete slices, specify some slices to be ge gif, animated gifs as well as jpeg. Makes a great shortcut especially when making larger banners and hpa/fpa
