Starting Salary For A General Webmaster / Site Builder

Was wondering what you folks thought a decent starting salary for a general assistant/webmaster would be for both in and out of the industry?

We're currently looking to hire a couple of new staff members full time including someone to manage building, submission of free sites/galleries along with some other basic stuff like content categorization, etc, etc...

Any suggestions of what a realistic starting salary for such a person would be in your mind?

    Regards,

    Lee

    We have taken 2 webmasters.
    We have hired them freelance.

We supply them the content, we supply them with the domains, we supply them with all of the essentials to build the site. We even do the marketing on the sites. They're only responsibility is to develop the site.

They are paid $100.00 per site that they develop. This includes a tour area and a members area. We take care of the processing stuff (ie: CCBill's join page stuff).

Then they are paid 25% of the net the site earns for life. This is after a studio that supplies us with content is paid, We receive 25%.

Here's an example of what one of our new guys developed earlier in the week: www.SneakyStuds.com.

This pay is working for us.

What do you mean with "develop the site" if you are doing the marketing. With marketing my thinking is building freesites, directory listings etc...
Is developing building the design/layout and choosing the right pictures?
    :-D

    Derek,

Why are you paying them twice?

If you pay someone to do the work once, you have absolutely no reason to pay them a percentage of revenues as well, that just doesnt make any sense from a business standpoint

I forgot to mention that they manage the updating as well. When I stated this, this isn't something like where a webmaster builds a site and brings it to your network. IE: Badpuppy or Gay Porn Access.
We own the site, we either own the content or have a license for the content.
The freelance webmaster working for us builds the site, maintains with the updates, as well as work out of our office.
They are not required to promote the site, but one does. This also helps keep our costs down and we're able to launch more sites with a different budget.
For example, www.GayBarebackVideos.com we paid $1,000 for the site to be developed and live. Then we also paid $100.00 for 30 banners. Then, on top of that we have to update the site. Whereas doing things this way and thus paying the way that we do. It helps keep our costs down. Thus we're able to launch more sites, and not having to stress over how quick we will make our money back.
We are preparing to begin our network sometime in March. We had initially planned doing so this month, but we made the decision to film this month, and since we have some really good talent lined up we figured we'd better grab the talent before they disappear.
So in March, we will be generating the network and relaunching the new SebastianBucks.com.

We believe the more sites that we can develop that are quality sites, the more we can add to our network and think the more sites in the network equal greater conversion ratios.
This is why we're doing it this way. Sorry for the long explanation Lee, I wanted to explain why it is like this.

The commision revenue payable towards our freelances is because eventually they are going to have a large amount of sites that eventually they may be sitting here all day updating. If it were me, $100.00 would not cover that. So we give them the commission to compensate for all that they are doing. We still make a profit, the webmasters will make cash, and everyone's happy. :gaydays:

    Derek,

You are spending WAY to much money on design work, if you paid $1000 for that site you mentioned im sorry but you were ripped off.

I wouldnt have paid $400 for that type of site design, its basically HTML with a few images thrown in for good measure, something you could probably have done yourself in about an hour.

You really need to start shopping around for other designers/staff you are being way over-charged
