So i just spoke to my mum today over in England and discovered that for some unknown reason, she decided to get a remortgage on the house that she only had $25k left to pay off before she owned it outright.

Thankfully she only signed the paperwork Thursday so im hoping she is still going to be in the grace period to cancel it so that we can actually pay the remaining balance off of her house and get it setup in trust for one of my sister.

I just dont understand how anyone can take out a remortgage on a home they are pretty much free and clear of owing the mortgage company anything on.

There are a few occasions when refinancing makes sense, but rarely for a homeowner that is retirement age.

I agree, and now England has the lowest mortgage interest rate in 300 years

Well i spoke to mum again today and she said that because she was still in the grace period for the refi she was able to cancel it, she should be getting the paperwork through in the next 5 days with the cost to actually 'cancel' the refi that she never received the check for.

Once she has that and i have had a look at it, its over to England for a week in February to setup the house in turst for my sister and her kids.

Two days up north dealing with mums stuff, then 2 days down south dealing with dads, then 3 days just bumming around London LOL
