Where Are The Newbies?

I was talking to Bec yesterday about the state of the industry and those in it presently and subject of newbies came up briefly and how they seem to be 'missing' on the gay side of the industry.

Has anyone else noticed how in the past few months we seem to have lost newer webmasters entering the gay market segment whilst it still appears that new webmasters are hitting the industry on an almost daily basis on the straight side of things?

What would you say this was attributed to?

for a programmer or web designer, yes.

It is NOT acceptable but seems to be the norm~

More straight folks are in economic trouble. And it doesn't occur to them at first to sell gay.

Sadly, for "paid in advance" deals, that is more common than not. It's particularly bad with individuals, but I've even heard (and experienced) this with larger companies.

After 6 years in the industry, we simply never pay in advance any more, because we've been burned with late deliveries and bad work too many times.

If you have enough of a reputation for being stand up, people will generally agree to be paid after delivery. If not, suggest that you work through guru.com or rentacoder.com, both of which will escrow and arbitrate disputes.

Same here, except I'm a little too BIG to be saying starving. The sad thing is I'm so busy with becoming a webmaster that I have neglected the artist part.

I plan on being so rich I will be able to spend my days creating masterpieces and masturbating, in no particular order.
