ICM Registry Trying To Renew .XXX Application

    http://www.icmregistry.com/irp/MemorialStatements.pdf

A 500+ page document they have submitted in support of gaining a .xxx TLD from ICANN.

    http://www.icmregistry.com/irp.html

Their latest registry filing dated January 22nd 2009.

These idiots really must have more money than sense $0.02

    Regards,

    Lee

I think it's more that they've invested millions of dollars already and aren't ready to let go.

Besides, we already know they're complete sleazebags.

THe unfortunate thing is, with the new ICANN rules, they may actually *get* .xxx this time.

Interesting read ... What do you feel will happen? Clearly this is a classic confrontation - and ICANN is in the wrong ... It seems they will be unable to hide behind any level of US or even California Law ... I LOVE this kind of fight - and the mind boggles at the $ spent already ... :luke:

How many of you would register the .xxx versions of your domains?

I don't even take the .net, so I doubt I would buy into this.
I post here to whore this sig.

The insidious thing about .xxx is that the guy promoting .xxx is talking out of both sides of his mouth... to the industry he's saying it will be great, give us more options, help people find our content, etc., and that it will never, ever be a "required" thing to have adult content under a .xxx domain.

To the politicians and religious types, he's saying that it will help to ensure that the Internet is effectively filtered so that all adult content is in one place, making the internet "safer for kids."

Obviously those two statements are in complete conflict with one another.

Additionally, last I looked, he was going to be charging some ridiculous amount for registration, something like $60 per year per domain.

Oh, and he claims to have the support of a "large number of big companies who are the major players in the adult industry" but he conveniently won't mention who these supporters are... and there are persistent rumors that the companies who are supporting .xxx are doing so because they've been promised the rights to register premium .xxx domain names before anyone else.

I'd like to see this proposal killed once and for all, but if that doesn't happen, I'd like to see the registry run by a nonprofit organization that isn't in any way connected with this group of crooks.

This is one of the sleaziest things I've run across, and i just hope ICANN isn't asleep at the switch on this.
