Who else will be going to the GAYVN Awards presented by NakedSword in San Francisco this March?
Who else will be going to the GAYVN Awards presented by NakedSword in San Francisco this March?
So GayVN has yet again set their show to take gay attendance away from the Phoenix Forum?
Then you ask me why a lot of people dont want to support the GayVN show.

Lee
Any word on if they're bringing back the Gay Phoenix Forum one? I had a blast at that one.
They are co-branding the GPF and Phoenix Forum together, as they did last year... separate panels and activities, but sharing the overall event. I'd love to see it totally separate, but there are some advantages to doing the entier event together.
Id love to see it totally seperate again too but AVN/Epoch pretty much fucked that up for gay webmasters i think when they started all that controversy a couple of years ago directly pitting their show that had 40 attendees total, against the GPF.
I agree there are some advantages of having both the GPF and regular Phoenix Forum going on at the same time to, much broader audience for attendees/sponsors to market to, gay companies have a chance at getting seen by straight marketers/companies and straight companies have a chance at getting seen by gay companies and marketers.
I think for the most part, so long as CCBill keeps doing what they have been doing with The Phoenix Forum for the last 10 years, this is going to end up being the only show for those serious about business in the industry to attend, in 5 years it has pretty much grown to a must attend show from its humble beginnings.

I went to the 2005 show. 2006 you had to be a nominee to even get in the door. So I have no interest in what they do. I prefer the ACH deposits my vendors award me.

We've received GayVN noms the past few years, but haven't attended since 2004. Just not cost-effective. Probably won't this year either. But we're already booked for Phoenix... our first Phoenix Forum. Hope to meet many of you there.
I have been attending THE PHOENIX FORUM since its beginning 10 years ago when there were very few gay companies attending. The year prior to the start of the first GAY PHOENIX FORUM the original TPF had a great turnout of about 60 gay companies attending. The events held by PRIDEBUCKS and CYBERSOCKET were some of the best attended on the schedule. It was a very good show for doing business with not just gay but straight companies as well. To combine them like they have been for the past several years is a decision that should be applauded.
As for the insinuations that The GAYVN is trying to sabatoge gay participation at TPF/GPF, I find that hard to believe since both sponsors of the GAYVN AWARDS SHOW are also Pride Sponsors of TPF/GPF. The GAYVN AWARDS SHOW is now open to the public and the industry.
In conclusion, I have several friends coming from overseas and the East Coast. They have decided to attend both TPF/GPF and the GAYVN AWARDS SHOW. Having the GAYVN AWARDS SHOW the weekend before TPF/GPF allows attendees of both to combine one trip to the West. With the GAYVN AWARDS SHOW host hotel, The Westin San Francisco Market Street, extending the $99 group rate for up to 3 days after the awards it makes it very affordable to stay in SF and then fly to PHX on the night before TPF/GPF starts. Whomever selected the dates certainly had East Coast and International visitors in mind.
That being said, I hope to see you and all the other members of GWW at the GAYVN AWARD SHOW!
Without dragging up old, dirty laundry, suffice it to say there was pretty strong belief and support for the notion that not only did Cybersocket actively sabotage GPF, they went to a bunch of key sponsors and told them to call CCBill and tell them they wouldn't support it.
Of course, on the other side, there's evidence that CCBill, at the highest level, wasn't absolutely overwhelmingly supportive of the GPF in the first place at that time, but I suspect it would have happened had Cybersocket not twisted AVN's arm into scheduling their event directly against GPF.
There's several threads about this here in the archive from when it happened.
Hopefully the guilty parties will eventually figure out that scheduling shows directly against one another isn't the wisest move. Phoenix Forum has happened the first week of April for 5+ years, so anyone scheduling against that show has got to realize what they're doing.
It wasnt an insunuation, that is exactly what they did.
They even wrote in to their contract for their show that CCBill couldnt sponsor the event.
Fuck GayVN, Cybersocket and Epoch, they are collectively trying to abuse and misuse the trust of the gay adult industry to line their own pockets at the expense of the industry.
Some of us have very long memories and while most will forget about these 3 companies trying to fuck over CCBill and the Phoenix Forum, those of that wont forget will make sure people know what the real story is behind this show, that needs to (and is) fail as miserably as the regular AVN shows do.
AVN are has-beens when it comes to shows, they should have listened years ago when they were told they needed to change their show formats, the fact they are putting on a 'gay' show now is to little to late, especially when they actively go against a show that has proven itself to cater to the needs of the attendees, rather than needs of the show organizers bank account.

I began to write a long drawn out argument in favor of attending the GAYVN but I thought why? Cybersocket and Epoch at this point in time do not seem to be sponsors of the GAYVN Awards Show.
The only published sponsor is NakedSword. Tim and the entire staff at NakedSword have been working hard to make this Awards Show happen. And the folks I've met at AEBN have always been very supportive of our community. So I figure its my turn to support their endeavors. If you don't want to support a company that seems to be supporting your site
^LOOK UP^
then there is nothing I can say to you to get you to attend the show.
See you in Phoenix.
Unfortunately it doesnt matter who is sponsoring the GayVN show this year, it isnt just about Epoch and Cybersocket, GayVN themselves have been pivotal in their decision to directly compete with both the regular Phoenix Forum show and the Gay Phoenix Forum for the last 4 years, despite those who would have attended the show telling them otherwise and despite GayVN telling the gay webmaster community, for the last 4 years they will 'listen to our suggestions' well guess what, for the last four years gay webmasters have been telling them NOT to schedule their show at the same time as the Phoenix Forum and for the last 4 years that feedback has gone unanswered.
There is no wonder the GayVN is turning out to be as much of a failure as the regular AVN/Internext shows are... They dont want to listen to the people who will be attending these shows, who know they can get much better ROI at the Phoenix Forum, than some show put on by AVN that will have a maximum of 40 attendees.... Again.

I think we are talking about 2 different things here. The GAYVN Awards Show is to honor those in the gay porn industry, (performers, directors, editors, etc.) for their achievements this past year. As far as I am aware there will not be a summit as there has been in the past.
My original posting was for an event that will take place at the Castro Theatre on March 28, 2009. My travel agency, Grand Luxe Travel, was selected by NakedSword to arrange for a host hotel for out of town visitors to the Awards Show.
I was able to negotiate a $99 rate at the Westin San Francisco Market Street, which is a rate I thought GWW subscribers attending the Awards Show would want to know about. There will be several industry parties but again, as far as I am aware there will be no seminars or the such.
No, we are talking about the company AVN/GayVN.
The same companies who say they will always 'listen to your feedback' but never do, if they cant be bothered to listen to us, why should we bother supporting them.
It may be the award show BUT they still scheduled it to attract those companies and individuals to their event instead of the Phoenix Forum, yet again, despite having been told numerous times in the past not to do it by the gay webmaster community.
They didnt listen, so we wont attend, i think thats a pretty fair trade off myself $0.02
If there is nobody there to see who gets awards, the show is pretty much worthless... Maybe they will start listening to reason and stop being devious in their attempts to detract attendees from the CCBill shows.

Lee
